I take it sound works in WoW when you run with the older wine that came with ubuntu 12.04?

@Angas: you probably should have installed PlayOnLinux and installed it via that program for compatibility. Otherwise, have a look at the WineDB to see if thats of any help.

Also: Sound Issues under Ubuntu 12.04 may help.

The ubuntu version of wine is patched to make it work with pulseaudio, but the upstream wine doesn't have this patch. To use this development version of wine, there are a couple of workarounds you can try:

* stop pulseaudio while using wine
http://wine-wiki.org/index.php/Sound_Troubleshooting see "Stopping pulse"

Or,

* reconfigure alsa to let pulseaudio use one device and wine a different device so they can run at the same time
http://wiki.winehq.org/WineAndPulseaudio

Actually there is a third choice, try to forward port the pulseaudio patch that ubuntu uses to the newer wine, but if you were that confident about hacking wine source code you wouldn't be asking for help here ;)

what. stop pulseaudio? pulseaudio can play fine with the alsaplugin anyway.
i havent had problems with non-pulsepatched wine since 1.4 or something
used to be problematic with 1.3 releases

What's the story with DirectX 11 support in Wine? Is there any ETA on that?
