Arma Tactics is a turn-based close-combat strategy game, where you take control of a four-member Special Forces team. There are no given strategies, rails to move on, or paths to follow; it‘s up to you to decide how you will play through both the story-driven missions and generated missions with randomized objectives.
Linux is now listed as an option on its SteamDB entry and I've seen a few reports of it working nicely for people, so it may be in beta and have a few bugs but it should be playable now.

Whether using stealth or a more direct approach, you will need to use your strategic thinking and use both basic and advanced weaponry while facing many different opponents - ranging from unorganized local militia to smart and skilled mercenaries.
With highly replayable missions, achievements, weapons to unlock and a whole additional campaign coming in October 2013, Arma Tactics offers many hours of intense ever-changing action.

We told you about this quite recently after a developer talked about it on the Steam forum, so it's not surprising, hopefully if they see good sales the Arma FPS games could come to Linux in the future. It has no Linux icon yet but that will come in time.

It's looks alright. What I want to see are some sales numbers for Linux. Actual amount of Games sold, anyplace I could see such a thing?. I'm doing some personal research for something.

Must have been a closed beta you heard about there - it's still not available generally (unlocks tomorrow 3pm GMT), and it's listed as Windows only right now (edit : sorry, I missed that you'd already mentioned that!). Hopefully that will change in the remaining 17 hours...

Erm... Just brought, installed and played.
Works well -- it's obviously made for tablets, but it's pretty decent from what I can tell. Like a simplified version of UFO: Enemy Unknown (you can customise loadouts and upgrade weapons).

Another steam-hater, eh? And why not. I was like that once.
Then I started using linux and realised that you didn't have to visit each driver-site to download their updates, one at a time as you did in Windows. You didn't have to visit each shareware site you downloaded each utility from to update to the latest version. You didn't have to visit getfirefox.com or whatever every couple of of weeks to see if there was new version. You just "apt-get upgrade" and off it went. Amazing.
Steam's like that for games. So now I have Desura, Steam and absolutely not a single locally installed game. Excellent.

Just brought, installed and played. Addendum: On Linux natively. The page doesn't list Linux support, but it's definitely there. Also, it does say the release is the 1st of October, so that may be a bug and I was fortunate.

Is gameplay fun? I can only find reviews for the mobile version, where they mostly complain about missions taking too long for mobile playing but also that it's often not possible to tell if a soldier is in cover properly. Has the latter been addressed for the Linux release?

I don't know for missions taking too long as I'm in the middle of the first one, but this one seems to take quite a time to finish. Also note that achievements currently does not work.

That's it finally got its linux badge on Steam now (it showed up yesterday, here in the UK). If I wasn't knee deep in Mark of the Ninja, I'd have bought it already. Maybe one for next weekend though.
