Valve are making another Linux push towards having their full library available on Linux, this time it's Half-Life: Source & Half-Life Deathmatch: Source.

To install Half-Life: Source you will need to also opt into the beta version of Half-Life 2 for it to work, you do not need to do this for HLDM:S.
QuoteLinux and OS X users can simply install the Half-Life: Source application to access the beta. You MUST also opt into the Beta version of Half-Life 2 when testing on Linux and OSX, you can do this by right clicking the game in your Library, choose properties and then go to the Beta tab. Select the SteamPipe beta to start testing.

Both games seem to have entered beta for Linux & Mac in a change pushed to them ~10 hours ago so it's still very fresh, prepare for bugs galore!

So with these games the list of Valve games we don't yet have is tiny:
  • Portal 2
  • Counter Strike Global Offensive
  • Alien Swarm
  • Left 4 Dead (the original)

I honestly don't think L4D1 will be ported. Why? Because L4D2 has all the maps and characters as the first just with different gameplay mechanics. Also, I don't think L4D1 is that popular anymore for the above reasons (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Yes I would love to see another game on Linux, but if the technical side outweighs the practical, why bother?

I'd rather see portal 2 and CS:GO before L4D1 in any case.

Plenty of people do still play it; different gameplay mechanics being one reason. But the logic is flawed if you consider the games that have just been ported (same as HL and HL: DM but with ragdolls, water physics and lighting).

I would have preferred Portal 2 and CS:GO about 6 months ago. Not sure what the hold up is with either of these.

I saw these games appearing in my library, this is awesome! The Half-Life series is one of my favorites, I wanted to play Half-Life Source so bad, now I can, thanks Valve!

I want Portal 2 and Alien Swarm ported too as soon as possible.

That is exactly my thinking as well. What you said pretty much invalidates any reason not to port Left 4 Dead. I would quite like to see it on Linux myself considering how I paid for it.

I'd rather have Black Mesa Source, but oh well :P
