LucasArts veterans craft a retro side-scrolling RTS that takes place in a multi-layered, 3D world set in Ancient Rome.

Super Roman Conquest is a side-scrolling strategy game that gives you full control of your troops within a multi-layered, 3D landscape. Developed by veterans of LucasArts, SRC blends the nostalgia of our formative PC-gaming past with modern RTS design elements and a meta-game progression reminiscent of our favorite indie strategy games like FTL.

Well that sounds pretty fun!

They are looking for $30,000 and currently have $6,000+ with 27 days left to go, so they should easily hit that goal!

Matt emailed it in and had this to say:
QuoteHi, my name is Matt and I’m a former LucasArts employee. Most recently I was a designer on Star Wars: 1313 and worked heavily on our E3 2012 demo. I've been working with another long-time Lucas veteran, Tim, on a multi-layered 3D side-scroller called Super Roman Conquest.

Tim’s last project at Lucas was Star Wars: First Assault, the proclaimed successor to Battlefront. We worked at LucasArts for a combined 16 years until the Mouse closed us down earlier this year.

We've teamed up to build Super Roman Conquest which is a mix of Total War and FTL wrapped in a 16-bit side-scrolling package. The 3D environments allow units to be moved deeper into the landscape -- you aren't bound to a single axis like most side-scrollers. I've included our debut trailer, Kickstarter link, and press kit for further info. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Sounds like quite a team, very interested in seeing how this one works out for them.

I love the multi-layered look to the game, makes it look really interesting. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The team stated that the gameplay footage is using placeholder graphics for the background layers... and that they're planning to have FEZ-level pixel graphics to match the sprites.  For a pixel-art fan, that sounds gobsmackingly amazing!  FEZ is gorgeous in that regard, and the faux-3D parallaxing works really well in that game.  If they can even come close to that level with Super Roman Combat, I'll be a very happy backer indeed.
