Valve has revealed the specifications for the different range of Steam Machines that they will use for the 300 beta units.
That is quite a range they are using and I am glad they are going as low as i3 processors as I doubt many people really have a top of the line CPU. These machines will of course be fully upgradeable so you can swap anything in and out.
Can't wait to see what enclosure they use for the machines themselves, Valve have stated they will share the CAD design for it for others to replicate it if they wish.
I really do hope we win one of the boxes so we can film it properly and show it off here, that would be awesome.

This is the key if they want to reach console players :
In the future we'll talk about how Steam will help customers understand the differences between machines, hardware strengths and weaknesses, and upgrade decisions.

I think the Steambox already has a very strong point against consoles. The key here is convergence. Being able to buy a game once and to play it both on the pc/laptop and on the console (Steambox) will prove irresistible for many people.

I think the Civ V rumor is due to the screenshot in the SteamOS announcement. On one side, Valve will be announcing some AAA native Linux titles, and it could be one of them. On the other side, being a turn-based strategy title with modern graphics, yet not framerate-bound, nor particularly dependent on controller latency, it is possible that it is the sort of game intended to showcase the streaming functionality.
By all means, do be sharing these channels with us...

Well, just to mess with us, Amazon has decided to post XCOM Enemy Unknown and Civ5 bundle as Windows and Linux.

Highly doubt it's true. Funny that they'd post it as such though, probably trying to ride the waves of Linux news these past couple of weeks. What's strange though is that it is even written in the title.
