So recently a boxed copy of XCOM Enemy Unknown & Civilization V together popped up on Amazon and it prominently lists Linux as a platform option, not only that but Borderlands 2 as well.
The Borderlands 2 GOTY edition lists the release date as tomorrow the 8th so we will see very soon if it's a mistake by Amazon.
It lists the available date as the 22nd of October for the XCOM/CivV bundle so we don't exactly have long to find out, but it would still be nice if we got confirmation somewhere.
Is it easily possible that this is a mistake on Amazon's part but it has been up for a few days no with no adjustment done on it, so is it possible they are heading our way?
If you remember Steam's recent announcements there was this image:
Source - Which shows off Civilization being played, although it's also possible that this is to demonstrate SteamOS's streaming ability.
Considering the list of other games it shows in the Linux Games section on Amazon I think most of this is just an Amazon website issue, so don't get your hopes up too much.
The page states at number 11 of the best sellers for Linux as Football Manager 2011, only the 2014 version will support Linux for example.
To me it sounds like someone dealing with this at Amazon isn't quite sure what Linux is and just ticked a box for a load of games.

If this is true..it would be the most awesome surprise ever. I am keeping my fingers crossed, even though it may turn out to be just an error. If it is, then i think amazon owes us some ports. :p

AFAIK Civilization V is not using the Gamebryo engine. It's a custom engine from scratch.

Apon further research, I find that Gamebryo (from Civ IV) was only used during development. As others have stated, being on OS X means some subset of OpenGL support, and it may very well not be using any unportable middle-ware. Unfortunately, the OS X port contracted out to Aspyr (so Firaxis employees may not even be familiar with the code from the port), and it also means that there is no engine vendor supporting Linux to ask for assistance, so it's all on the studio itself to do it. I'm not sure whether or not that makes a port less likely, but it certainly doesn't seem to make it more likely.
I suppose the next move is Valve's :)

So... Stupid question here. Has anybody actually got in touch with Aspyr about possible Linux ports through email, Twitter or anything. They are already selling to a small niche market. It might make financial sense to them to branch out to Linux porting also considering SteamOS is right around the corner.

Note that the Amazon pages for XCOM + Civ V and Borderlands 2 GOTY don't mention Linux anymore.

Liam you need to update the news because as abelthorne already pointed out Amazon has fixed the versions for the Games. No more Linux in XCOM + Civ V (2K Definitive Strategy Collection) the same goes for Borderlands 2 GOTY.
