You've probably seen a bunch of articles related to this tactical FPS/RTS game running on the Source engine. Before buying it I had compared the screenshots and gameplay ideas to Natural Selection 2 and thought about skipping it. But thanks to Steam's Autumn Sale I decided to pick it up anyways, which turned out to be a good decision after all.
As we have mentioned on our previous articles, Nuclear Dawn is an FPS/RTS hybrid, which allows you to either play as an ordinary soldier on the battlefield, or as the commander whose job is to coordinate the battle and build structures around the map. The game has a wide variety or different maps ranging from metros to open desert-like airfields.
First of all, Nuclear Dawn doesn't play exactly like Natural Selection 2, even though they have similarities between each other. For example, in NS2 there are no classes and the character building is done completely on the battlefield and there are more responsibilities put on the commander than in Nuclear Dawn. I found Natural Selection 2 to be more hardcore, while Nuclear Dawn was more approachable from noobie standpoint.
Graphically Nuclear Dawn isn't possibly next-gen, but it still looks beautiful and and the style works well in the post-apocalyptic setting. It also delivers a stable framerate on my machine, which is possibly due to being written on Valve's Source engine, which already works very nicely on Linux. I also really like how the gameplay works and the different classes offer excellent options to suit different play styles. Especially the Stealth class worked nicely for me.
Before you buy it though, remember that it's still in beta and having some stability issues is to be expected, but the development seems to be going forward at a good pace and some problems I had two days ago were fixed the on the beta update yesterday, which also brought some new features.

Command mode works. I was commander of the enemy team in Xpander's video.
The event that Xpander's video is of also has Nicholas Hastings (psychonic - he's the one that sounds suspiciously similar to Gabe Newell :D ), the developer handling the Linux playing, which was heaps of fun.

I cannot find the linux option on steam... Where can I get it for linux? I'd buy dozens of games if I can find them for linux but still very hard to find. Thanks!
