GOL Cast: Exploring Lovecraftian Dungeons in Eldritch

By -
I have played some roguelikes, including Nethack, Dungeons of Dredmor and Ancient Domains of Mystery, but I have kept my distance from these new FPS/Roguelike combos, that we have seen getting released over the past year. I have to say, if the other games are as good as Eldritch, I have no reason to avoid them anymore.

Eldritch is an action roguelike set into a randomly generated lovecraftian world of deep dungeons with enemies ranging from snakes to hooded cultists. The game is made by two brothers from Minor Key Games, who have previously worked on AAA titles, like Borderlands and BioShock 2.

While the game isn't graphically the greatest thing ever, the gameplay is really solid and fun. The fact that there is some element of stealth included also gives it an extra bonus, since that was something I wouldn't have expected initially from a game like this. Overall a really enjoyable game, which will be a great addition to your games collection, if you like the genre.

You can get the game DRM-free from the Humble Widget on their web page (which also includes a Steam key!) or you pick it up directly on Steam.

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.

That actually looks pretty fun. The name of the game doesn't do it justice. Like you said "but I have kept my distance from these new FPS/Roguelike combos", I am guilty of doing the same :P

Hahaha, guns. The hands look a little freaky deaky.

Nice one, Samsai. I just coughed for Delver yesterday and it's a similar title. I might have to go for this one too. It looks a little more polished than the Early Access one I bought!

I might check Delver later and see how they compare to each other, but at least this one's currently in my top games. I just need to play it a bit more.
