In the world of The 7th Guest: 3, you re-enter the mysterious and magical Stauf mansion, newly remodeled and filled with classic Stauf games, toys, diabolical puzzles and artifacts.

In The 7th Guest: 3, Stauf's house is filled with 20 devilishly clever puzzles (or more, with stretch goals) that will test your wits--and scare you right out of them, as well. This house is not only filled with puzzles, it is a puzzle; one gigantic, mechanical mind-bender. To complete the game and the story you must solve every puzzle in the house and the puzzle of the house itself. Only then will the final, dreadful secret of that brilliant madman, Henry Stauf, be revealed to you.

They are requesting $435,000 and currently have over $50K pledged to them so they have quite a long way to go, it just depends how popular their older games are I guess.

Features

  • HD full motion video with real actors
  • CGI and practical FX
  • Extra story content
  • Beautiful hi-res environment
  • Puzzles with physical properties rendered in real time
  • 20+ puzzles within a meta-puzzle that is the Stauf mansion itself
  • The sort of game that you just can’t find and that only Trilobyte can make

The only annoying bit is this from the FAQ about platforms:

QuoteThe 7th Guest 3 will be developed and eventually be available on all viable platforms including, but not limited to, iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and quite possibly Linux, Steam and a dedicated game console to be named later.

So currently Linux isn't 100% which is a little sad since the other games just came out for us and with so many people confirming it, it is a little sad to see a brand new Kickstarter not support us yet.

I decided to chat to the developer who had this to say about Linux

QuoteHello Liam,

I suppose I was being cautious. I confirm it to you. We love Linux and the very idea of Linux as a gaming platform. In fact, The 7th Guest Linux is available right now on Steam.

So folks if you want to see this on Linux pledge away.

Keep in mind though that Linux version of The 7th Guest on Steam uses ScummVM, while The 11th Hour is not supported in ScummVM (*) and also has no Linux support on Steam.
Make of that what you will.

Me, I'm hoping for their Kickstarter to succeed though. I always loved ham-tastic FMV games. :)

As a person born in the early 90's, I never know how to feel about the classic point and click genre. I've recently played some old titles: Full Throttle, Day of The Tentacle, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, and Grim Fandango. And while I stick around for the stories, which are always very unique and engaging, I tolerate the actual gameplay. Despite my efforts, I inevitably go to the game FAQ to solve the convoluted puzzles. Maybe it was intentional so you get more play time out of it figuring it out yourself, but to me it breaks flow into a stop and start of story and rubbing everything on everything.

However, more recent games have piqued my interest. Especially Amanita Design; Botanicula was a joy to play, and was never so difficult that it broke flow (though I can't say the same for their Machinarium, as much as I enjoyed it). And I'm very excited for Double Fine's Broken Age! Especially since Tim Schafer was one of the minds behind the story of those intriguing Lucas Arts games. And as a backer I've watched them address the concerns and shortcomings of their ancestors, as well as its strengths.

Aside from Rob's caution, the tier descriptions stated Linux as a reward from day 1.  He basically must have made a mistake in that FAQ reply, despite having the tiers arranged correctly, and should probably go fix that answer.

Despite the developer´s statement, I think it will be on Linux, I played the first game back there, it has some mind blowing puzzles, let´s wait to see this one.

Agreed, and they fixed the FAQ reply, likely due to Liam's prodding:

The 7th Guest 3 will be developed and eventually be available on all viable platforms including, but not limited to, iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Linux, Steam and a dedicated game console to be named later.

So, that bodes well.  I wonder how hard it would be to get them to sell the DOS version of The 11th Hour (there was one, right?) directly off of their website, on Desura, or via Humble widget.  That would at least give us easy DOSBox play.
