XCOM: Enemy Unknown Nearing Beta For Linux

By -
So it looks like XCOM: Enemy Unknown is nearing beta status with a new entry on the SteamDB, not 100% confirmation of course but it looks quite convincing.

If you have been living under a rock we shared that it might come in a previous news post here.

The linux depots seem to be populated as well. They were empty/unused just a few days ago... Exciting times :)

It can be fake, to get more money.

Excited enough to buy this immediately, no questions asked. :D

I highly doubt it's fake. They already support MacOS, unless i'm mistaken XCom uses UE3, which has been used several times now... Looks legit. Worst case scenario: I'll have to wine it. At this price, it's a risk I'm completely willing to take. :)

I bought the game, there isn't access on Linux.

It clearly states "Nearing Beta for Linux", not "OUT on Linux NOW!!!", read first ;-)

I already own it on PS3 disc, as well as a free downloadable copy via PS+... But I want it on Linux and my future Steam Machine. It's a really good game.

I don't generally like buying based on promises (and here we don't even have a promise, we just have hope..), but at ten bucks, I decided to stick it in my Steam Inventory until a port is released, or I give up the wait and trade it to a friend for something that does run on Linux.

There are even more interesting things in the main XCOM entry of SteamDB.

Well if it is true, then wow. Just a while ago, we had read that it was possibly coming to Linux. Either it was already in the porting process for a while now, or it was a really quick and easy port. Cant wait to try the beta!

Unless Firaxis is being a really mean tease about this, it coming to Linux is about as close to a sure thing as we can get without direct confirmation.

The only thing that's really on the hook at the moment is if they include Enemy Within alongside it.
