Dota 2 the ever more popular MOBA from Valve has hit over 7 million unique players in a single month and shows no signs of slowing down, there is also some downtime to be had this month.

It always makes me laugh when people claim PC gaming is dying when to me it looks stronger than ever, a lot of games like Dota 2 are constantly growing in popularity, e-sports and live-streaming are also becoming more popular and more accessible to everyone.

So, congratulations to Valve on hitting 7 million on Dota 2, that's quite an achievement don't you think?

Something to bear in mind this month for Dota 2 players is Valve will be creating some down-time to address some problems, included are the ones remaining:
QuoteAustralia January 15 (Wednesday) 04:00 AEDT 24 Hours
Singapore January 17 (Friday) 01:00 SGT 48 Hours
EU East January 20 (Monday) 18:00 CET 24 Hours
EU West January 21 (Tuesday) 18:00 CET 24 Hours
Russia January 22 (Wednesday) 21:00 MSK 24 Hours

So if you have problems on those dates, try it the next day it is for the greater good of course. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

"in a months" time?

Anyhow, yeah dota 2 is great fun... one note about the updates is you will still be able to connect, just not to your local server at least that's the way i understood the point of staggering the update.

24hs server downtime looks absurd! :O
In HoN any major maintenance to the server takes 2-8 hours.

You can play on other servers though, so it isn't too bad. Not like old EQ days where if a server went down... you were crying until it came back on.
