Ah, zombies. There can never be enough of them, right? Well, getting stranded on an island infested with the things after a storm nearly sinks your ship and drowns you might sound like a perfect vacation to you then.

Estranged: Act I is a standalone Half-Life 2 mod by Alan Edwardes, which puts you in the shoes of a lone fisherman who has gotten lost during a violent storm and ends up stranded on an island which is, apart from few survivors, full of walking corpses. The island is pretty much cut off from the outside world and a mysterious Arque Corporation broadcast is blocking all radio communications to and from the island. It falls on to you to figure out what is going on and how to make it out alive.

Calling this game a mod doesn't do it enough justice in my opinion. It's executed very well, the environments are designed fantastically and it doesn't have to rely on cheap jump-scares to be creepy. Considering Estranged: Act I doesn't cost anything I think not downloading this would be a huge missed opportunity to play a well-put-together mod.

it's quiet enjoyable, only thing I found wrong was the guy at the start, still nasty mobs and his family is missing and he is like here have my gun I don't need it.... would be more convincing if he was hurt/dyeing.

but for the rest good good fun

In the beta he had a shotgun and didn't care too much about the small pistol, but they decided to change the whole thing. They should have kept the original beginning IMO, but luckily it's just a minor thing.
