In NeonXSZ (pronounced Neon Excesses) you are injected into cyberspace to stake your place in a war of virus verses machine. During your journey you will fly dozens of spaceships with hundreds of upgrades allowing you to create totally unique spacecraft with which to wage war.

They have released a new version this month hot on the heels of another new version last month, they also updated their demo last month as well, so it's well worth trying now.

They also have a new video to show-case some new weapon effects:

NeonXSZ - The Weapons - Dec 2013 - Desura

Looking fantastic!

Full Changelog
QuoteNew Dust Particles hanging in the air
New 3D dynamic map added to a new panel on the cockpit This map updates with the tech level of discovered areas and is interactive allowing the player to zoom in and out and rotate it. It appears on the far left (previously unused) panel on the cockpit.
Redesigned targeting HUD (Heads Up Display)The new HUD is much clearer. Previously it would be red for hostiles and green for friendlies. This was always hard to see because hostiles were generally in red environments and friendlies in green ones. The new HUD is a aquamarine blue. Hostiles have red health bars, friendlies have green health bars. The selected enemies tech level is now displayed on the HUD and is color coded to represent their threat level. Other elements of the HUD were also tweaked for better visibility.
Juiced up cockpit glass messages The cockpit glass messages are now also aquamarine and slide onto the glass before fading with a new effect.
Font edited to make reading decimal values easier
New 'Full Bright' option for enemy ships added to the 'Customize' options Simply makes ship textures super bright.
Bug fixed that could cause tooltip text to be too large in rare circumstances
New special effects added for the Electrocute gadget A massive improvement over the old effect.
'Impunity' gadget special effect significantly improved
New effect while using the 'Blink' gadget Instead of instantly teleporting to the Blink destination the player instead rushes forward in a blur to their destination.
Ship explosions are now based on the size of the ship, and are generally larger than previously
If the player has no current target, the next ship that he shoots will automatically become the selected target
Nanotubes are now attracted towards the player like all other upgrades - It was felt that having to manually fly through two pieces of loot was too much. Only uranium needs to be collected manually now.
Weapon loot size increased by 15% - New weapons will unlock faster now
Loot multiplier for playing at higher difficulty levels increased - Playing at higher difficulty levels should now be more efficient and unlock new loot faster than at low levels.
New docking tutorial tip added while the player is level 1
Lancer missile description corrected
The GyroShield now swings around the player more slowly This should help prevent it from swinging infront of the player and blocking shots so quickly.
TLHUD marker 'turn-around' icon redesigned to be more obvious
Images for unknown hulls no longer appear in the hull data window
New exclamation mark icons now flash on screen to highlight important items that new players often miss These only appear while the player is level 1.

This games is really unique and a lot of fun I have it.

Definitely a retro old school descent feeling shooter which is really nice.

If you'd like to help also - you can help the dev get this game greenlit for Linux here

Hey, a huge thanks for the news update [liamdawe](http://www.gamingonlinux.com/profiles/1). I'm the developer BTW.

I was wondering why there was an increase in Greenlight votes over the last couple of days. Now I know :)
Thanks for posting the link ElectricPrism and to everyone who voted.
