Slitherine To Improve Linux Support

By -
Slitherine game store and publisher has announced improved cross platform support. Until now, Pandora: First Contact from Proxy Studios was only available to Linux gamers as a download and you had to buy the version separate from the Windows and Mac version. The physical disc only included the Windows version as well.

However a recent post on Facebook confirms that future Linux games by them will be on the physical disc as well at launch and any game bought will have access to all cross platform versions not just the one you paid for.
QuotePANDORA CHANGES THE RULES: Single download (and disc) for all three formats: PC, Mac and Linux

Pandora was the surprise hit of 2013. After much anticipation the game has received praise and accolades from many major websites, and has been defined as “one of the games I enjoyed most playing in recent years" (Space Sector), “the surprise of the year” (7ID Gaming) and “the closest thing to Alpha Centauri I’ve played since I last played Alpha Centauri" (Rock Paper Shotgun).

Now when you buy Pandora you are not just buying it for one platform (PC, Mac or Linux). Instead you get all formats in one package, a serial number that works for all and no intrusive DRM so you can install on your Mac and your PC. If you buy the boxed edition it will come with all formats as well.

This also marks an evolution in our distribution. In the future all multi-platform games (PC/Mac/Linux) will have a single download or disk containing all formats, allowing you to download and play the games on all operating systems you own.

This is something I personally brought up with them after being gifted a copy of Pandora from the developers, it was all highly confusing as you had to specifically click the Linux link in the platform list otherwise you would be buying the Windows version and it didn't actually tell you this anywhere. They are another store who needs to note Windows and not PC though, you know how annoying it gets to see that.

Great news though, nothing worse than being locked to a single platform when you buy something.

Well, the term PC has been misused so much by now, that I do not care anymore. Just like Mac actually means OSX, let them have PC as a synonym for Windows. I would rather have "we are Linux", instead of "we are PC too".

Yeah I was more then happy to buy the CD version, imagine my surprise when I only got a download link for the windows version with only windows on the CD as well.

After going through their support though they gave me a link to download the Linux version and their keys are cross-platform so alls well and ends well.

I am debating about gifting my copy to someone and buying this new fangled CD with Linux version on it. As long as there is a Penguin on the box I'm happy!

I wish they would sell it at another venue. When it comes to digital sales I really don't like going all over the place. I like that so many people use Humble so I can get all my downloads in one place.

Cool, I just bought my "full color printed box, full color printed CD (with your order number and serial number printed on it), a Printed full color manual and a PDF E-Book indexed manual".

I made boxes for some of my favourite games, but this is the first one I bought since... Eschalon: Book II, I think.

The box is in my hands. It is wider than a normal DVD case, because of the thick manual, which includes the installation instructions for Linux.

Where the old box says "PC DVD" in the front, now there is a Penguin (and the other two logos), but not in the spine where "PC DVD" hast just been removed.

Not only the serial number, my name is also printed on the DVD :D

Ah good to know, I've decided to leave it for now. I have the game and my personalised DVD. It is weird buying a game and having a regular DVDRW in the case with a printed front. Not the expected silver disc!
