Everything is online for this game, when you go out and pick a house to rob you are actually robbing another player, they will of course be able to do the same to you.
The aim of the game is to secure your house as best as possible and rob as many other people to gain wealth.
Upon buying the game you gain access to an account on the main games server, the full source code to the game (from here after buying from Steam) and finally all the files required to run your own server for the game.
While the game may seem simple the truth is that it's far from it, The Castle Doctrine is a perma-death game so when you die that's it and you start all over again.
You can grab it DRM free from the developer directly too which gives you a Steam key, if you buy direct you need to compile the game yourself.
For Steam just use the handy widget below:

I wanted to get it few months ago directly from game website, but I think that idea of distributing Linux version as sources in form to compile by yourself is rather silly in 2013 and now 2014.

Quoting: IlyaI am not saying that having source code is bad. I am saying that developer doesn't distribute Linux binaries (at least he did not til the Steam release). What kind of support is that? There are non-technical gamers among Linux users too. It is not like each one of us is compliling kernels all day long.Quoting: hardpenguinI wanted to get it few months ago directly from game website, but I think that idea of distributing Linux version as sources in form to compile by yourself is rather silly in 2013 and now 2014.I think it's rather nice to have the Source Code as well...
