Dungeonforge Action RPG Is Back On Kickstarter

Dungeonforge is attempting to win over people again with its brand new Kickstarter that aims to create a great action-RPG.

There is no crazy Linux stretch goal with Linux support from the start which is fantastic to see and they require at least $60,000 to get funding, with 22 days still to go they have everything to play for.

They have already been greenlit onto Steam, so they are plannning full Steam workshop support where they will allow custom monsters, weapons, abilities and more!

The game itself looks like an open-world RPG that relies heavily on its game-editor, although they are plannning to bring the game out with 5 different characters each with 20 hours of game-play, so it's not all down to you to create content for it.

I can't help but feel that they have relied too heavily on the user-generated aspect of it with the editor and not enough on the actual campaigns they will include themselves, after-all some people just want to pick up a fun RPG to play with a story, not everyone wants to spend hours creating content.

What do you think folks?

this actually looks pretty cool.

Is kinda a mix of:

-Garry's mod
-Rpg maker
-Diablo

Has a lot of potential and I remember myself like the author spending countless hours on Starcraft and Warcraft map editors. :p

I mean is a sandbox, so the tools look good so far. Has a lot of potential.

Yeah, I'm not so sure on that "create something, and it gets incorporated into the world" bit. So a player will wade through an unholy mess of writing styles, themes and tones; 90% of which will be badly written an executed to boot? And that's not even taking into account the trolls and griefers, the idiots and arseholes.

NWN did that correctly: the user-created modules were self-contained, and people could judge the content by the description, and the votes and comments provided by other players.

I pledged like a week ago. $10 for 100 hours of first-party gameplay... I'd say that's far from relying on user-created content.

"Making sure the best content is available and easy to find during online play is important. All content is rated by the players. The lowest scoring content is hidden, while the highest scoring content will even be pointed out to you by NPC quest-givers in the gameworld's central hub city."

Looks like they've got that covered.
