In a move to annoy probably everyone, Humble has added Euro & Pound pricing to their store. You may wonder why this would annoy people, read on.

The problem is 1:1 pricing, so $8 would equal £8 for example (when right now it should be £4.79), although developers can manually set their own pricing for different regions if they wish.

QuoteToday we’re excited to announce the addition of Euro and British Pound Sterling pricing on the Humble Store. The new currencies will allow us to offer more great games to all Humble Bundle customers while supporting awesome charities.

Along with the currencies, we’ve introduced what we call Humble Pricing. Humble Pricing is an automated price that is updated every night based on the US dollar price of the game. Humble Pricing doesn’t scale up for VAT or other charges. It simply translates a single worldwide price to each currency.

While we love the simplicity of Humble Pricing, we recognize that it doesn’t make sense for every developer or publisher. We also give them the option to provide an MSRP for each currency or region. The flexibility of offering either Humble Pricing or industry standard pricing means that we can bring you more awesome games at awesome discounts worldwide.

These new currencies are only available on the Humble Store. Humble Bundles, Weekly Sales, and Widgets will remain US dollar only with one worldwide price.

So they have joined Desura & Steam in allowing 1:1 pricing which will only annoy people.

Checking prices on Steam, they seem to be one of the few places that aren't doing 1:1 pricing. Steam does do it for some regions, but not all.

What do you make of this? To me this is sad news, 1:1 pricing pretty much 99% of the time makes everything more expensive for everyone outside of the US. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I wonder how long it's going to be until we see shit like this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/243200/?snr=1_7_15__13

This game here is 40€ in Germany and 20€/$20/20£ everywhere else, on account of that being a Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye) game; and that name has quite some pull in Germany.

Odd, why would they do this?

Presumably so they can get a larger cut of the sales.

$9 in Russia. :D

Soooo, living in Germany - can I somehow switch back to USD or do I have to use a proxy??

This is bull****. I don't understand why I should pay more than an American gamer. There is this riduculous image in the heads of game developers and retailers that people in Europe roll in diamonds. A quick reality check would show the average wage is much lower in 2/3 of European countries comapred to US. Not to mention it's unfair to charge gamers from richer countries more, either. We should all pay the same price for a game. The complete Crusaders kings II collection went fromm 79.99 USD to 79.99 EUR. Thanks, Obama...

If you didn't already use a proxy; now would be a good time to start...

I have a $5/mo VPS purely for this reason (well, and to circumvent the ridiculous British internet blocks).

And it's another £4~ more expensive in GBP (£69.99).

So, £47.84 in US, £65.84 in Europe or £69.99 in the UK...

My post about "Memoria" nonewithstanding, as someone who likes the idea of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", I certainly wouldn't necessarily agree with you on that point.

It's weird, because even though most games are the same price as on Steam, something like Proteus costs half an € more on Humble than on Steam...

Only GOG has had the resolve not to introduce different currencies and thus screw gamers over.

![
Sadly, GOG still doesn't support Linux.

A pitty, but I don't think GOG will ever support Linux. Not until it takes over Windows (if that ever happens).

OK thats one of the main reasons why I never liked (and used :P) Steam, I guess I will pass Humble now, too.

> joined Desura & Steam in allowing 1:1

thats not correct Desura does not use 1:1 pricing, it's a fixed exchange rate(Also there was an interview somewhere where they mentioned that they never introduce it cause of Australia blah blah blah)
--------------------
PS: If you pay with paypal on desura you can also let paypal exchange this for your(just change your country selection on your profil)

Actually Desura does allow it, and I've seen it happen on multiple titles.

Same price here in switzerland

Oh? Interesting. I wonder if it's 40€ in Austria as well, on account of also being a German-speaking country.

How popular is DSA in Switzerland, by the way?
Plop 18 Feb 2014
So how do I find out the USD pricing now?

None of the free proxies seem to work :/

There is anonymoX for Firefox. It works.

This is a surprisingly dumb move. Is GOG the only sane distributor which doesn't do such crazy stuff?

I think GOG will start supporting Linux, around the same time they'll release Witcher 3 for it. It might be a while until that though.

Outside of sales, Steam is really bad pricing wise. I recall when Crusader Kings 2 came out on Linux. I went to buy it on Steam (for about £30) and thought, let me check Amazon.

Got the original game and a couple of expansion packs for about £8. Used the code on steam and happy days.

Now with sales, they kick ass. Certainly a convenience store. Even EU4 could be bought around the place for about £10 less then on Steam the day it came out, but by then I had such a hard on for Paradox that I wanted to give them the extra money through a pre-order.

300hrs and counting on ck2... damn them.

omg this could end my humble bundle use. I only did buy almost every bundle because they where in dollars and they are dirt cheap.
