The Planetary Annihilation developers are promising big things this Thursday for when they enter their "Gamma" phase of development, yes they did just make that up.

I cannot wait to see what they are cooking up, I hope it doesn't disappoint. They did after-all only do a major update recently which I covered in a video here.
It could be the long-awaited Galactic War game-mode where you all fight for control across a star-map, it could be their new launcher, it could be anything big.
UberWe've got some incredible news to share with you guys. In a few short days, we’re releasing an update to our next-generation RTS Planetary Annihilation. This update marks the start of a new phase of the game’s development: Gamma.
Planetary Annihilation Alpha introduced concepts, scale and mechanics. Beta gave you epic moments. Gamma will present a new way to interact with the game — and the experience will revolve around you and your friends.
As we roll out features in the Gamma phase, we’ll give you an entirely new and more intuitive way to browse, experience, and play Planetary Annihilation. We’ll make teaming up and streaming more satisfying. We’ll make controlling multiple planets simpler with powerful tools. And that’s just the start of what we plan to add.
We’ll have more details on our upcoming Gamma update and phase over the coming days. You’ll get your first peek of what Gamma has in store when it hits this Thursday, February 27th across all our digital channels, including the Uber Store, Steam, The Humble Bundle store, and EA’s Origin service.

Inventing development phases because developers seem to have forgotten what Pre-Alpha, Alpha and Beta mean.
In modern developers minds:
Pre-Alpha = Prototype
Alpha = Pre-Alpha
Beta = Alpha
Release = Beta
And as a result games these days are always released buggy and fixed later on, in the past when internet wasn't as easy to come by as it is these days (or before it even existed) game developers had to make 1.0 bug-free. Issue being now that the market has changed and patches are now in fact an option.
Just thank god that developers still patch their games after release, means they're not just being lazy, they're just being greedy (want money faster) which is the human thing to do.

They did not make that up. Developers at some point quickly forgot their Greek alphabet but Gamma testing is a term that I use to hear, if not often, as far back as more than 20 years ago. You can search for Gamma Test on Wikipedia so somebody thought of it before now.
