Planetary Annihilation RTS Major Patch Released

My favourite RTS of the moment, Planetary Annihilation has released another huge content patch that adds some really sweet features like unit formations!

New Stuff At A Glance
Area load / unload for transports.
Alternate Fire Button (Default map: u) - used for the Uber Cannon.
AI is even smarter than before.
Area Patrolling for ground units now works.
Support for pinging the map.
New planet biome - Desert.
New Steam SDK includes 64 libraries for Linux ; Hopefully this will help some Steam integration issues in 64-bit Linux.
And a ton more!

I think the game is fantastic and I am sad I don't get enough time to play it (it's a real time-sinker!).

I just love the scale in the game, smashing planets into each-other, moving units from one planet to another, nuking your enemies. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'll be happy when this game actually works for me. I can get it to semi run on my laptop but it's not very powerful. It won't even start on my desktop because it gets all pissed off that I'm using an AMD 6870 GPU. I'm not sure if it's an issue with their stuff or Coherent UI. Either way it's turning into another game I'm disappointed I backed.

Unless you have a decent laptop, I imagine it would struggle with a game like this, that's kinda a given with a massive scale RTS.

I take it you have reported all issues to their forum and bug tracker?

Nope. I went to play it one day that I had time and after struggling to make it work for a couple of hours I gave up and walked away. I tried again a couple weeks ago and the issues weren't fixed. I looked at the forums and many people report this bug. It has something to do with the UI which goes back to Coherent UI being the issue.

What issue is it you have exactly?

Black screen on start up. That's all I get just a window with a black screen. I've tried to call it with the --software-ui flag like people say works but it doesn't. It's just a work around that works for some until the bug is fixed.
