Rust Hits Over 1 Million Sales & Removes Zombies

Rust the extremely succesful early access survival game on Steam has now hit well over 1 million purchases, they have also finally removed Zombies from the game.

Garry shared the news via twitter (although he still has us blocked, so I only found out thanks to people retweeting!).

Guess what just happened to Rust :0 https://t.co/k5sXk4f8k5

They have also as promised removed Zombies from the game, so Rust is no longer "yet another zombie survival game", it is more of a general survive the environment type of game now. It will be more interesting when they add in a lot more varied wildlife to mess about with.

It is still a little bare bones with not a great deal to do, so I am not sure what the big deal is with it, it offers up no tutorial so you are thrown into it without so much as a pat on the back. I am sure it will get a ton more content as time goes on, this is Facepunch we are talking about who still update Garrys Mod so many years after release.

Quoting: liamdaweI respect Garry for supporting Linux given our market-share, same goes for any developer.

I am waiting to play Rust properly until there is more to do, doesn't seem like a lot right now :(
well that 5k units is over 100k dollars ..ofc minus taxes and stuff.. but i think they have got more then the porting expenses.

Indeed, I will be adding that to our part 2 article on the sales stats :)

dlc with zombies would be ok, some people will like to have zombies in the game.

Well, i think Rust and Garrey are sooo overrated.

I think Rust is pretty mediocre (I played it several hours, trust me).
I mean what's the point of selling something you don't know how is it going to evolve? Is this just a stupid experiment that we are all funding? Once and not more, that won't happen again, at least not with my money.
I'm so disappointed but not just with the concept of the game.
I'm really disappointed with the so called "Linux Support".

You know how Unity works right? One-single-click-multiplatform-build That's what he did, nothing more nothing else.
Facepunch CAN'T program, can't develop a true game. Even Oxide mod devs were doing a better job than Facepunch themselves.

And the worst thing is when you see these Facepunch guys saying "oh yes we will improve performance in linux and mac clients".

Sure, how? They don't know a shit of how the engine works in Linux-Mac.

And how can they do it SO bad? I mean other Unity games work flawlessly out-of-the-box in linux-mac. This obviously don't.

Meh, Garry is not even a dev. He's just a modder that believes himself a dev.

Hahaha... sad.

They are not even ashamed of still having the damn FPS-Kit textures from unity. That's so damn amateur..
manny Feb 12, 2014
well at least with all the funds they now have they can hire more devs familiar with unity or get the unity devs to look into the issues for them

Thats how minecraft started and it turned out great.
Xpander Feb 12, 2014
actualy most of the engine issues are unity issues.. other unity games have same problems, worse performance and mouse issues.
textures and stuff are ofc generic for most part.. they are replacing them slowly. Rust wasnt meant to go live at all first.. it was just random side project they tested afaik..

keep your eyes on https://trello.com/playrust
they are updating it quite regulary what they are doing.

Quoting: FutureSutureCan't believe a guy like that can develop games. Thought it took brains for that.

Well, there are more than just one. Remember FEZ and Phin Fisher?

You know, your post is the perfect example why forums/twitter/etc. need ignore/mute/block features.
Glad I could be of aid. Keep fighting the good fight there, buddy. Always good to be defending those who bring up totally invalid criticisms and can't handle being called out for it.

I do recall now that you mention them. How do these people not feel embarrassed for themselves?
