CRYENGINE one of the most advanced game engines around powering a ton of games has finally announced official Linux support, so Crytek how about some Crysis on Linux?

More likely is that we could see their free online FPS "Warface" get ported, as that is what they are focusing on right now (apart from Mobile).

QuoteDuring presentations and hands-on demos at Crytek's GDC booth, attendees can see for the first time ever full native Linux support in the new CRYENGINE.

The Far Cry series hasn't used CRYENGINE since Crytek sold the franchise to Ubisoft. But Kingdom Come is using CRYENGINE and Warhorse announced from the start of their Kickstarter that the game would be coming to Linux as well.

That is awesome news!

I would love to see a technical presentation on how they ported it, if they have a translation layer from D3D to OpenGL like Valve, what OpenGL extensions do they use, if they are planning to become a Khronos member along Valve, Epic and Unity. Too many questions.

ok, I'm not the brightest button, but does this mean any cry engine game can be ported over with little effort?

Well, not any game. It would need to be a game that was made with the ported versions so older games are unlikely.

I doubt many developers will "do a Valve" and port their really old games.

It would have been surprising had they announced this before Kickstarter projects popped up indicating this was very much an inevitability. It's still exciting, though.

This is great news. Fingers crossed for some big AAA titles using the engine and getting a simultaneous Linux release. Fantastic!

At the very least this should mean Kingdom Come will come through with their promise. Good news :D

that dont means nothing, not all companies do their own game engines.
Far cry is made with Cry Engine even after Ubisoft.

Plus, hands-on demos! That's a vote of confidence for their Linux performance.

Right now Crysis 3 is origin only.
