Update: It is now released, early!

You may not remember, but we told you Earth 2140 would come to Linux, well it is finally about to happen courtesy of RuneSoft.

They tweeted about it recently, and it took them a day or so, but the Desura page is finally up! It has a stand-alone download, so you do not need the outdated Linux Desura client.

Earth 2140 is quite an old game now being released originally in 1997, but it's still a fantastic Real Time Strategy game.

Here is some actual game-play footage thanks to youtube:

It's a lot like the early Command & Conquer games and it doesn't look like it has aged too badly!

About
After numerous wars and several environmental disasters, only two world powers remain; The United Civilized States (»UCS«)and the Eurasian Dynasty (»ED«). The damage caused by the long wars forced both world powers to evacuate the population to recently built underground cities. Natural resources are becoming scarce and have to be extracted above ground. There have been a number of small conflicts between the UCS and the ED, the last of which escalated and became a fierce and bitter war - the final world war. Only one side can win. This final war will decide who will get the last of the available natural resources and ultimately rule the world. Gameplay EARTH 2140 is a real time strategy game involving the high tech warfare of the 22nd century. More than 120 exciting missions, an unprecedented artificial intelligence, more than 100 ground units, mechs, flying units and ships are at your command.

Is it Desura only, or will Steam be getting it too?

EDIT: Noticed you asked the devs this exact same question.

I can't agree with this article that Earth 2140 Gold Edition is the old game because I didn't have a chance to played it on Linux. I remember that Runesoft ported Earth 2140 to Amiga OS and Mac OS X, but I think this first day when I can buy version for Linux.

I don't quite get what you're talking about.

The game IS old, as stated it the article it was originally released in 1997, new to Linux doesn't make it new.

That is up to the main publisher, so it could be tomorrow to never.

I have a great lack of RTS games. Earth 2140 is in the first place of my shopping list.

Wooo, i will buy it today. Great memories and defo I need to show my support. Back in 1977 in Poland I had no way to play it and not pirate it. At least now I have a chance to fix it.

Thanks RuneSoft for bringing up new games to Linux through Desura. I wondered why the developers were quite silent on ongoing projects that seem dead today. Just look at their page :
https://bitbucket.org/runesoftdev/

Games still to be released :
- Ankh
- Ankh 2
- Anlh 3
- Pinball 3D
- Knight & Merchants

Hopefully they will be released soon (or never ?)

As I have been told myself: "More is on the way but sadly one day only has 24 hours."

The guys working on the Linux releases have a lot on their plates, so it is best to be patient.

From what I know only one guy is doing the Linux ports at RuneSoft, so don't expect quick releases.
