Gabe Newell Of Valve Answers Questions, CS:GO Coming To Linux & Steam To Be A Self-Publishing System
So, you love getting questions answered right? Gabe Newell of Valve did an AMA last night and luckily I managed to get him to confirm CS:GO for Linux.
I was going to wait to post this, but since all the other major sites have used my own question to Gabe as news, we won't let you guys miss out!
Source, Me of course!
The amount of people who then sent me a PM or asked in public for me to change my question to Half Life 3 was crazy, but there you have it CS:GO really is coming to Linux, but with no ETA.
The second biggest news is that Steam will turn into a self-publishing platform, exactly how that will work is anyone's guess as there will need to be some sort of moderation involved:

Gabe NewellWe got bottle-necked pretty fast on tools and decision making which lead us to Greenlight, and is now leading us to make Steam a self-publishing system.

Also two other important things... Firstly, that avoiding Wine, in favour of native ports, is a company policy, and one which Gabe claims is good for the future sustainability of Linux as a gaming platform. I agree with him, and am pleased to see that he and his team are paying attention.
Secondly, there will be no SteamOS exclusives, as many (myself included) predicted based on Valve's history. He wants his Windows userbase to look favourably on SteamOS as a service extension into their living rooms, not as a heavy-handed push onto something unfamiliar (as MS has done with it's own customers, vis a vis Windows 8's Metro).

Did anyone asked him if Valve is still planning to develop single-player games at all?

QuoteIn the future, do you expect all Steam games to run on Linux/Steam OS?
Gabe: Yes.
Has there been any trouble getting developers to add Linux compatibility?
Gabe: Surprisingly little. There is a lot of popular sentiment in the developer community about Linux and gaming.
