Hellraid is a fantastic looking action RPG that is due to launch this year, I got in touch with the developers to see what the chances are of Linux support.

QuoteHello Liam,

We won’t have Linux/SteamOS version of the game at launch but would like to port it after the Windows and console versions are released.

Best regards,
Marcin

That's pretty good news as it was a shot in the dark!

Their new Chrome Engine 6 also supports Linux:
QuoteChrome Engine® 6 broadens the meaning of multiplatform as it now supports the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, Linux and MacOS along with PC (DirectX 10 and 11), Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

It's certainly a possibility.

Of course we always suggest to not buy it until the Linux version is released to prevent getting burnt. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

QuoteClicked all of your links and not one looked like the other. What is a true RPG anyway? A computer RPG? There are many different types of RPGs but that one seems to be one of if not the original definition of a RPG, as opposed to an action RPG, a strategy RPG, and so on.
Every one of these advertises itself as an ACTION RPG, true?
Action RPGs are the ones which role playing is from little to not existing at all.
True RPGs are the ones with focus on Roleplaying.

See my post, you are always playing a role. I don't know what you mean by "focus on roleplaying", focus..how?

Quoting: liamdaweWhat is a true RPG? There is no such thing, what one person considers a true RPG another will not.
So a shot em up, a strategy game or even a puzzle game are all RPGs?

QuoteWhen it boils down to it any-game you play as a single character is an RPG, since it stands for Role Playing Game, playing as a character is playing that role, so...yeah.
So in every game you interact with NPCs in a way that these interactions develop your character and affect the in game world?

An FPS game is very much an RPG yes, you're playing the role of the shooter aren't you? RPG is an extremely broad term and people forget that.

A strategy game, well yeah you're playing the commander role aren't you...

See where I'm going with this :P

No, I don't know many games at all where you actually affect the in-game world.

In true RPGs, where R stands for roleplay and it's not just a letter, the focus is on the story and not on combat, like action and hack n slash RPGs. You create a character with specific abilities and characteristics and with specific background. According to these abilities you interact with the NPCs and your companions and you make decisions that fit with the personality of your character. Different decisions have different results and most possibly different ends. Thus the good RPGs have great replay value because you can play them again and again by choosing different paths of the story. True RPGs, where you do not have just to click and kill, are Fallout for example, or Planescape Torment.
