Oculus has announced their second generation VR development kit with many improvements, it's closer to what the retail release will be.
Features include a low-persistence, high-definition display and precise, low-latency positional head tracking. The retail version of course will still differ as this is still a development model.
I am still seriously sceptical about VR, for me it's like 3D it's just odd. I don't want to strap something to my face. I am glad to see them continue to improve their kit though, I agree with the below quote:
I agree, if it's not totally immersive, it's not going to get good reviews or good traction from developers.
They have also done some more work to optimize it for Unity3D and Unreal Engine 4.
It's also cheap at $350 which is less than I personally thought it would be, meaning more developers will be able to get one. You can pre-order it here.
See the full blog post from Oculus VR here.
Also if you missed it, our contributing editor "Cheeseness" did a review/video of the first kit here.
I will be picking up the consumer version when it is release to hopefully give you guys some proper thoughts of my own on it.

QuoteThere’s no cutting corners or ‘good enough’ when it comes to VR; the consumer Rift needs to be perfect and we’re dedicated to getting it right.

If you only consider it for videogames then yes you can have doubts.
Personnaly I'd like to enjoy a movie like if I where in a real theater. Or think of what would be your multi screen desktops, look around you to reach a window/application you put aside etc.
My biggest doubt about its pratical use is its weight, it can already be painful to wear 3D-glasses at theater so the rift could be worse than that.
