Looks like Nvidia are stepping their game up, they announced Nvidia GameWorks recently and one their videos specifically mentions Linux support.
Currently, PhysX under Linux is done on the CPU not the GPU like on Windows. With the GPU doing the work for PhysX on Linux in the future games that use it should perform better.
One of their official forum moderators did confirm in 2012 they were working on porting GPU-PhysX to Linux here, looks like it is finally happening.
In this video below showing off WaveWorks, part of GameWorks which is aimed at giving developers cinematic-quality ocean, the voice-over man mentions it is being worked on for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. Go to 1:55 to hear it.

There is also FlameWorks:

The point is this all uses PhysX, and it will support Linux.

according to steam hw survey, over 50% use nvidia GPU's - so i dont see why not.
many games on windows use physx... todays CPUs are good for doing it on CPU side anyway..if nvidia hadn't put some special code into this to make it perform worse on CPUs

Physx works on any computer you want it to the only difference is that nvidia has it on there gpu and not on the cpu all gamers can take advantage of this if they want they will just need to run it on the cpu witch preforms a bit worse but still works fine.

CPU PhysX is terrible. But honestly, PhysX adds nothing to a game in terms of gameplay.

physx sucks, all developpers should just use Havok or Bullet instead,
those are not bricked on the cpu
