This is completely unconfirmed, but "The Witcher 2 Linux Beta Retail" is now an entry on SteamDB as of today.

About
Thanks to the new, ultra-modern REDengine, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings features both beautiful graphics and sophisticated in-game mechanics, drawing players into the most lively and believable world ever created in a video game.

Defining new standards for realistic, non-linear game narration, The Witcher 2 spins a mature, thought-provoking tale to produce one of the most complex and unique RPGs ever released on consoles. In addition to its epic story, the game features a complex combat system that uniquely combines dynamic action and tactical depth.

This is crazy, it's a fantastic looking game and I am so full of excitement right now it's unreal.

Quoting: godlike
Quoting: SoltrummanThe Witcher 2 turned up in my Linux-library on Steam today. Seem to be able to download it as well, not sure if it works when downloaded though.

It's a good game and it's great to see it on Linux.
Cool! If it works let us know :)

The game downloads happily enough (15gb), but it wont play. The old school "no executable found" problem.
Liam Dawe Mar 20, 2014
That would be because of a few issues, one being the "Linux Bin" is Encrypted.

So nothing important then :P.

Anyone here know how long this game is roughly? I figure its not exactly CK2/EU4 length but I need to know what sort of "im about to start gaming a long game" kinda gift to get the missus :)

But it has multiple choices which branch the game, so it can be replayed multiple times with very significant changes in the plot.

Great News.

I've this game waiting on my desktop since too long.

I highly recommend any who hasn't tried this to buy it. I also urge people to play the witcher 1 first (the story isn't connected) to understand the settings and references a bit more.
Shmerl Mar 20, 2014
The story is actually quite connected, but it's not strictly required to understand the second game.

Yeah, I played The Witcher for a bit. I just kind really can't stand Geralt...

It's downloading on my desktop as I type; it's 16GB:O. I am beside myself with anticipation. I'd been running it (purchased from Steam) using a PlayOnLinux script, which I've already deleted:D. This is a 4+ star game by any standard, and now it's available for Linux!

That might have been premature. By the reports on the Steam forums, there isn't yet an executable in the download, only the game data. Looks like the Linux version is still in (closed) beta, and the public push of the game data might have been by accident.
