So, you all know by now that Tropico 5 has been pushed back for the Steam Machines release and it does beg the question, are more AAA games waiting for Steam Machines?
There seems to be no reason that Tropico 5 has been delayed either, the only thing we have seen on it is confirmation that it's coming to Linux. Now that a release date has been set it was pushed back for Steam Machines. This could possibly mean the publisher is in talks with Valve about being a "SteamOS release game" of some sort.
While SteamOS isn't exactly a brand new platform since Linux games will run directly on it, Valve may still be trying to push it as a new platform, so just like a new console release. This is why it really wouldn't surprise me if Valve have planned this.
It isn't just Tropico 5 that is missing in action, XCOM: Enemy Unknown (while not 100% confirmed it has a lot of supporting evidence) and Two Worlds 2 also have Linux versions on their way.
There is also Valve's own Counter Strike: Global Offensive, while confirmed for Linux it has no ETA. This could be another SteamOS "launch title".
The question does remain, is Valve in talks with bigger name developers & publishers to delay their Linux versions until SteamOS is out?

Finally, to the person who was wondering what makes an AAA title, I would say that Skyrim and (Frontiers illustrate the different approaches brilliantly. Skyrim is a massive enterprise, that had the backing of a small army of developers and artists. The result is a game with polish (A few laughs from the assembly as a few bugs come to mind), with good voice acting, a good graphics engine, unique art assets and a powerful narrative. Frontiers on the other hand is the work of 2 individuals, featuring a large open world, which has been procedurally generated, art assets that have been bought from a store, no voice acting, no . The man hours put into the game are probably only a fraction of what has gone into Skyrim.
you would say, then why bother to play Frontiers? Why not stick to Skyrim. In my view, Skyrim is great...yet there is something missing. It all feels really rehearsed, there is a feeling of deja vu, if you have played the other Elder Scrolls Games. Frontiers on the other hand, really tries to be different, and that is why I will probably enjoy playing it. AAA studios don't like to bring out games that are slightly out of the norm, as the ROI is not assured. COD12 will be released, but like the recent iPhones and Galaxies, they will only be iterations of previous games. Indie games fill that niche area of experimental games. The danger of course is that Indies sometimes get carried away by their ambitions, and the games lose focus. I still marvel at the mad ideas that have been floated around and have actually been put into a game.

@OZSeaford that can have various reasons, and is no indication that it won't come at all and they only dabbled in it doing a test for cross platform Witcher3, but a good sign that it's not close. Could have been a mistake by them, could be that they just pulled it back for the SteamBox release, could be that they found fundamental problems which need fixing first and require a new image (which is very unlikely, since that would require that new model exports would be necessary, which is very unlikely considering their models work on OpenGL). We never shall forget that those kind of publishers can put that things online themselves.

Well, most PC games are now played via 2 platforms, which also double up as digital shops:Steam or Desura. Windows Games Live is dead (Yeah!), GameSpy will be D.E.A.D by the end of May, and EA Origin store is a bit of a joke. Some may say that to succeed you need to be on Steam. Some isolated cases like Mojang actually go against this juncture, but as I said games like Minecraft are the exceptions which prove the rule, as we say in France.
That leaves digital outlets such as Amazon, GOG, the Humble Store, GreenMan Games, Slitherine and a plethora of other smaller outlets.
So I guess yes, if Steam fails to get SteamOS off the ground, we are pretty screwed in the hope of getting mainstream gaming, but we will still get indies so all is not lost.

I'd HOPE that more than just Witcher 2 shows up- I'd expect Witcher/Witcher2/Witcher3 in this case.
