Folk Tale has been a sore spot for Linux gamers for quite some time now, after initial excuses about graphics drivers the developers are finally closer to a Linux release.

Originally the developers stated in June of 2013 that they where concerned about releasing a Linux version due to the state of Linux graphics drivers.

Then after many months they stated the game now works fine on Ubuntu 12.04, but they decided to license Bink Video for their in-game movies. Seems odd to go with a Unity plugin that doesn't yet support Linux after their attempts to bring out a Linux version.

So, cannot release a Linux version now until Bink Video supports Linux inside of Unity, it can't be too hard since RAD state on their official site that Bink 2 officially supports Linux anyway, so it looks like they just need to update their Unity plugin.

Games Foundry the developers of Folk Tale did state that their use of Bink Video was on the basis it would work on Linux:
Games FoundryWe licensed RAD Game Tools' Bink video several months back to handle cinematics. As part of that agreement they are integrating their existing Linux version of Bink into Unity. Financially we've committed to a Linux build - it's just a matter of timing. I'd love to be able to launch a Linux version as part of 0.3.x.

But that was Bink 1, which has been RE'd by ffmpeg-people in the meantime. Bink 2 hasn't, apart from some cursory glances by Kostya. Since he's expressed how boring he thinks it is, and some other wtf-ery, I doubt he will take deeper look in the near future.
