GoldenEye: Source a Half-Life 2 modification is now open source and on github, so Linux developers it's time to get it on Linux. It was ported over to SDK 2013 which supports Linux, so technically it shouldn't be too difficult to do!
About
GoldenEye: Source is a total conversion modification of Half-Life 2. It is a fan made recreation, released for free, with only one goal in mind; to bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life using Source Technology.
We want you to look at this mod and remember the first best multiplayer first-person shooter ever made. We are doing our best to bring in the opinions of the community to create a game that everyone is going to enjoy. But, we are not here to recreate the game exactly how it was in GE64, a lot of things have changed since they first designed that game, mainly in technology and gamers experiences.
We are here to take the game even further but at the same time provide a lot of those fun elements that hardcore GE64 fans will enjoy. We've got experienced team members all across the board, from professional level, to amateurs looking to make it into the business working hard to make this dream a reality.
The announcement came early this morning for me on their forum here:
QuoteThis is it folks. I am pulling the trigger (finally)!
As of today, GoldenEye: Source is now an open source project. I have uploaded our entire code base onto GitHub. This code base aligns with SDK 2013 from Valve and v4.2.4 that was last released (with minor improvements).
https://github.com/goldeneye-source/ges-code/tree/ges
All our main code base is under the following folders:
Code: [Select]
/game/client/ges
/game/server/ges
/game/shared/ges
It is still in a pretty rough state since porting over to SDK 2013. There is a lot of work to be done still, but there it is. I will accept pull requests for capability and bug fixes, but not for added features or major revisions of code. Please use GitHub's issue tracker for any known issues you would like to see resolved.
Look forward to an updated contribution and usage license coming soon as well as a list of Valve files we have modified to suit our needs.
I hope more major HL2 mods follow suit and also become open source like this.

Nice! Got some good old memories from playing Goldeneye on N64, playing 4 people with split-screen on a 28" TV. :P

I used to have fond memories of that game, until I played it a couple years ago; not remembering the dark time before twin sticks a decent 3D graphics. The N64 has to be one of the hardest consoles to get nostalgic about.
