Sadly Mojang have let us down again, after repeatedly stating their card-based strategy game Scrolls will come to Linux they still have no idea when.

It is quite surprising that a company as wealthy as Mojang aren't able to push out a Linux version of a game they built in Unity3D that offers a Linux exporting option, the reason for the delay was originally that the launcher they built wasn't on Linux, but still no progress years later. Considering they went for cross-platform so early on, it does strike me as odd to build a launcher for their game that doesn't support Linux.

Mojang have been stating since November 2012 that it will come to Linux. So that's nearly a year and half of promises of "soon" and then "we don't have a date yet".

This is sad to see, especially since being a customer myself on their original promise in 2012 I have been personally stung by this one. Just another reason to never, ever buy a game until the developers state the Linux version already exists. Don't buy on promises, ever.

I decided to follow it up with them once again this month and the reply was:
QuoteUnfortunately, the only information I have is that it will eventually be released.

I am starting to think this may be a lost cause, when it does come out for Linux I fear my current waning enthusiasm for Scrolls may have gone.

About Scrolls
Scrolls is a great looking card-based turn-based strategy game, where you pick cards from a deck to place onto a battlefield and watch your cards come to life. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

A launcher? That's pathetic!
It's interesting to note that Minecraft's Linux launcher worked from day one/shortly after as far as I can remember. Honestly expected better of Mojang, I remember Notch being quite the tux enthusiast when valve made their famous 'catastrophe' statement.

Sadly I can't find where they told me that, but it was on twitter they said the launcher wasn't currently on Linux.

Well, Mojang and Notch are famous for breaking promises meanwhile. Another example is the over three year promised MOD-API for Minecraft.

Quoting: KoltorocWell, Mojang and Notch are famous for breaking promises meanwhile. Another example is the over three year promised MOD-API for Minecraft.

Well the Mod-API is due to Minecraft not actual being built by Notch to be moddable originally, leading the guys who took over to have to re-write everything pretty much.

Give it another year and Minecraft might actually be interesting to me again, right now though unless you have something massive in mind to build it's boring as hell.

The combat is just lifeless.

Well, for who is interested in turn based strategies and card games, I'm making a free open source one playable right from the browser based on Heroes of Might and Magic 3's combat system, but improved. Check out AncientBeast.com - it has some show stopping bugs atm and I don't have a budget for it, but it's constantly improving none the less.
