River Town is an interesting Kickstarter that the developers sent our way. It's a stort-driven farming RPG that will support Linux.

Now, when I first looked I thought to myself "a farming RPG...oh I can level up my digging...", but it's actually far more interesting than that.

The interesting thing is that the story is non-linear, your actions will change how you play the game itself from interacting with different villagers, to finding yourself a bride and raising a child.

They are promising big with this one, considering how much content they are cramming into it like farming, character customization, pets, cooking, building your home and far more.

The gender stretch goal is bugging me though, it's asking for trouble for an extra £26,000 to switch gender, and I fear it may get them a back-lash.
My thoughts on that are you should either include both genders, or centre the story around one and don't try to make people cough up to play as a girl.

They are aiming for the stars with a requested amount of £24,000, so if you like the sound of it check it out.

They also need votes to get on Steam via greenlight. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I agree that charging the interested players to be able to play as girls is a wrong way to fund up.
They should raise a little the initial budget and produce both genders.

That stretch goal also promises gay marriages, so I guess they're really after that pink dollar ;p

I understand these things are extra work, but that is quite a price tag. If they promised it from the start it could generate a fair amount of support from the ladies and gaymers, and lady gaymers ;)

I see the point of asking for more money for both genders. First each gender has different parameters that define how they interact with people. Unless you treat every character in the game as unisex you have to define what each gender can do with each gender. Obviously if you want to play as a girl you can't go and hook up with another girl and get her pregnant. That isn't possible. By adding another gender you basically have to double your interactions code. It would have been wise to do it in the first place but an after the fact thing requires more time and money.

No way am I funding something that can let me play as a female and have same-sex relationships if it's not a sure thing. Because honestly that's something I look for in RPGs, characters I can relate to as a queer female and the idea that I'll only get that, one of the core requirements for me as a player, if they more than double their funding is an incredible turn-off.

And to be honest, in this day and age where a lot of females are playing the idea that you don't get a female option right out of the gate seems antiquated and frankly out of touch.

Ah, another game promoting the mass media Holstein hegemony...

Sorry, but I always look through these things with an aim to laugh, so do not take it personally. I guess it is because of all the "existential freedom" I am enjoying out here.

I do appreciate the fact that they say your animals will die if you ignore them though.

Finally, some realism...

Isn't it sounds way too familiar to Harvest Moon?

It sounds like same game. Not a bad thing, imho, as Harvest Moon is locked to Nindento platforms, but looks somehow funny with that "Product of passion and creativity" line in video.
