As promised when we told you it would come. Sanctum 2 is now downloadable on Steam for Linux by opting into the "linuxbeta" branch on Steam.

It comes with a nice warning panel too:

It's a good job too as it instantly quits when the game should startup after the inital comic-strip for me and others I've spoken to about it.

So, it's there, but it doesn't seem to work well just yet.

Samsai did a quick video on it to show it off:

About Sanctum 2
Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the world’s first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game. Pick from four unique character classes and embark on a mission to protect the oxygen-producing Cores from hordes of deadly aliens who are threatened by their existence. Outfit your character exactly the way you want through the new and extensive customization system. Choose your own loadout of towers, weapons and perks, but choose wisely because you are humanity’s last defense against the unrelenting hordes set out to destroy it.

Sanctum 2 is a new game completely rebuilt from the ground up using community feedback and innovative design to really push the bar of what an independent studio can do.

Features
  • Tower Defense – Design complex mazes and build powerful towers to stop the enemies from destroying the Cores.
  • First-Person Shooter – Don’t just sit back and watch, jump into the action yourself!
  • Four playable character classes – Each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses and weapons.
  • Vast Customization System – Pick perks or make the game crazy hard by adding Feats of Strength.
  • In-game Visual Novel – Unlock a comic-book page for every map you beat to discover the secrets of LOEK III.
  • Progression System – Increase your rank and unlock new weapons, towers and perks.
4-Player Co-op – Progress through the storyline yourself or team up with other players whenever you want.

Excited for this one. The hours I sank into Sanctum 1. Can't wait to play this.

Is it right to buy a game for only a $1..?
Maokei Apr 12, 2014
The most severe problem so far is the missing collisoins on the ground, so if you are not careful you might fall through the map and die :P

What's right or wrong in capitalism? Those are some morals you're going to need to work out for yourself lol. I would guess that the developers have already been paid for this game, and that the money they have gotten so far has been enough. Aside from the question of do they need/deserve the money, there is the question of can you afford it, too. If you can't really afford something you should donate a smaller amount, or pirate it. $1 is pretty affordable though, at least for me. ^n.n^

I was mostly concerned about the developers and the revenue Linux gaming produces but since I have no job, and $1 is all I really can afford, I will buy it then.

A tip for downloading the beta: switch to the beta before downloading anything. I downloaded 700mb of non-beta, got a missing executable, and had to download 1,2gb again.

so buggy and glitchy, game is unplayable for me.
Xpander Apr 12, 2014
had texture issues: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/3335221527286699866/D9A7196B923F3558FEB799285461FFD633C42A3A/

-turns out it was the texture setting at high. works fine when set to medium

-mouse is little bit jerky (seems some sort of weird mouse smoothing or acceleration)
mouse smoothing option in menus doesnt help

-resolution is always set to 1280x1024 when i start up the game, have to change it every time

other than that seems to work pretty well, except few "loading" freezes

Read the post it's clearly stated that it's a beta filled with buggs.

Uh.. What a shame: Crashes instantly when loading a game.
Well better wait for the final release then.

Not my point, I posted a tip to save bandwidth.

Seemed to work pretty well for me, considering the warning. Played through the intro level no problem but crashed to desktop at the start of the next.

Looks like it'll be a fun game when it's polished up and a steal at that price.

-90% hell yes :D
