As promised when we told you it would come. Sanctum 2 is now downloadable on Steam for Linux by opting into the "linuxbeta" branch on Steam.

It comes with a nice warning panel too:

It's a good job too as it instantly quits when the game should startup after the inital comic-strip for me and others I've spoken to about it.

So, it's there, but it doesn't seem to work well just yet.

Samsai did a quick video on it to show it off:

About Sanctum 2
Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the world’s first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game. Pick from four unique character classes and embark on a mission to protect the oxygen-producing Cores from hordes of deadly aliens who are threatened by their existence. Outfit your character exactly the way you want through the new and extensive customization system. Choose your own loadout of towers, weapons and perks, but choose wisely because you are humanity’s last defense against the unrelenting hordes set out to destroy it.

Sanctum 2 is a new game completely rebuilt from the ground up using community feedback and innovative design to really push the bar of what an independent studio can do.

Features
  • Tower Defense – Design complex mazes and build powerful towers to stop the enemies from destroying the Cores.
  • First-Person Shooter – Don’t just sit back and watch, jump into the action yourself!
  • Four playable character classes – Each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses and weapons.
  • Vast Customization System – Pick perks or make the game crazy hard by adding Feats of Strength.
  • In-game Visual Novel – Unlock a comic-book page for every map you beat to discover the secrets of LOEK III.
  • Progression System – Increase your rank and unlock new weapons, towers and perks.
4-Player Co-op – Progress through the storyline yourself or team up with other players whenever you want.

Yep, it has a few bugs, but it's pretty playable as is. It does crash to desktop after the first level, but I've played the next four with an issue.

Well, not "without an issue". Without a crash, yes, but there are issues. Mainly, on the last level, there are tiles with red half-globes on them, but for some reason, the tiles don't actually support your character, so while the Lumes will run over them, you fall to your death.

And yes, the resolution can be changed, but it doesn't remember the change between games. And the MSAA will vanish all the text in the game, which sadly includes the menu text, so it's probably for the best that the graphics don't remember between games, or that would be pretty frustrating.

The core game though - excellent. Really enjoying it. Polish up the bugs and this will be a hit.

Quoting: Xpanderhad texture issues: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/3335221527286699866/D9A7196B923F3558FEB799285461FFD633C42A3A/

-turns out it was the texture setting at high. works fine when set to medium

-mouse is little bit jerky (seems some sort of weird mouse smoothing or acceleration)
mouse smoothing option in menus doesnt help

-resolution is always set to 1280x1024 when i start up the game, have to change it every time

other than that seems to work pretty well, except few "loading" freezes

Not having much luck with this one at the moment, startup the game, change resolution, crash, startup the game, select level one, crash, startup the game, crash & so on. It will get there just not playable for me at the moment.
