Something Linux gamers have been requesting time and time again is going to happen! Star Citizen is heading to Linux Chris Roberts stated at a panel at PAX.
They have so far raised a whopping $41 MILLION+ in their own crowdfunding done via their official website. The game is built with CryEngine, so it is no surprise Chris has finally announced the game will support Linux!
The game will come in two "editions" which reading up on it are two separated games. There will be Star Citizen the MMO and Squadron 42 which will be a single-player and drop-in co-op multiplayer game.
The most interesting thing is that Star Citizen will allow for private servers too, that sounds pretty fun.
You can find plenty of videos about the game on their youtube, seems odd to not have many on their actual website.
The game isn't cheap though, the cheapest pack is $30 and if you want alpha/beta access you need to go higher again for $40!

FYEAH!!!
I found this out on the Star Citizen forums and PAX recording before coming here but YESS!! I had to come here to express my excitement too =) Thanks Liam! Just a tip, if you had time you could have embedded/linked the source for a better article!
Also about pricing, yes Linux games are usually cheaper. Yes, there's rarely games that are AAA in terms of quality and budget on Linux, and Star Citizen is probably AAAA in terms of features and quality imho so it's totally worth it (and savings from having no publisher pass onto us, as well as feed more dev monies!). Yes, Linux gamers are willing to spend a lot of money as seen in Humble Bundle. Yes, the rise of Linux is now! >=D
Quotes (copied from the Linux thread in RSI forums): "(...) by the way, we'll gonna be supporting Linux."
"We'll be on Linux (...) we like it. I think most engineers will tell you that they prefer Linux (...) to Windows actually, especially in the back-end server world." during the QA, right after the ill-informed Sony guy.
1st quote is at 21:45 (already skipped to in that video link above by Jörmungandur.
2nd quote is at 45:20 (question & answer). CR also says "all the major engines are supporting Linux" at [47:25]. =)
(video is embedded above by two other ppl).

berillions, I'm not a native English speaker either and unfortunately my french is not good enough - but here are some things about operating systems as I understood them:
-Matt Higby (Sony Online Entertainment) doesn't know anything about Linux, the open source scene and SteamOS. Palmer Luckey (Oculus) uses and recommends trying out SteamOS.
-Nvidia and Chris Roberts agree that multi-threading will become even more important. Especially for Microsoft. Chris Roberts also says that Mantle and DirectX12 will help with some problems in game development for Windows.
-Chris Roberts complains about Macs constantly having problems in the CIG offices.
-Star Citizen will support Linux, and all the SC servers are on Linux. It will be 64bit only.
-Sony doesn't have "any plans right now" to bring Planet Side 2 to Linux and Mr. Higby is sceptical if more AAA games will come to linux soon.
-Chris Roberts says that the main problem with development for Linux is the rendering pipeline, which is the engine's job: "When all of the major engines support Linux, then, out of the box, it's much easier." He thinks we will see more games move to linux and that "It would be nice to have competition" among the operating systems.
-Nvidia will "continue to make the best linux driver in the world."
