Vangers was originally release in 1998 and it's now on Steam for Linux with a reworked edition. It has a complex story-line and is all-out weird.

I watched that entire trailer and I have no idea what is going on at anytime, did any of you? I am all for retro-games.
About
Vangers was originally released in 1998 and now we present you with the special reworked edition of the game with improved performance on modern operating systems. Game still runs in 800x600 resolution though, as it was intended to do.
Vangers is a mixture of various, yet consistent gameplay components. The player enters the strange world of the future, emerged as a result of the clash between humankind and another intelligent race of creatures, and now living according to its own rules. The world challenges for the quest.
Feature
- Vast Sandbox world - do whatever you like, just don’t get caught without Rubbox.
- Non-linear story with multiple endings - choose who would you like to save - world, yourself or somebody else?
- 30 mechoses (armored vehicles) - drive, assemble and steal whichever you like.
- 70+ items to equip your mechos - big guns, big fun.
- 10 unique worlds to explore - and die for!
- Oldschool game from 1998 with epic hardcore gameplay and no help whatsoever.
The original IGN review sums it up:
QuoteBottom line? Vangers is a product for those looking for something weird and unexpected, but the driving and shooting aspect isn't enough payoff to wade through the complexity of the game's storyline.
Grab it on Steam.
I have no idea what was going on in the trailer, I also had no idea what was going on when I played it back in my Windows 95 days. However, it does still evoke many fond memories.
Will have to buy it again, just for nostalgias sake.
If I had to define the game in two words it would be ugly and confusing. For the price they are asking, I really think there are better things to choose from.
Wonder if it is Wine-based or native, though?

As far as I can tell, it's native (with a 32 and 64 bit build). Seems to have all three platforms in one though.

Also, world of Vangers is the same world that appears in another famous game from K-D Lab, Perimeter: http://store.steampowered.com/app/289440/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1 It will not be ported probably, because rights on it still held by Buka.
Both Vangers and Perimeter has a huge community in Russia, these game are legendary.
Seeing those .55 files makes me wish that Caesar 3 would get a (native) Linux port. That game needs to not be chained by wine!
