A Linux user sent a shot in the dark to the Codemasters team with decent results. It's a matter of when now and not if! So, Linux could see another AAA racer come our way in future.

QuoteNot at launch but it is something we're looking at and having discussions around. We'd love to support Linux, is a matter of when not if and for what titles.

We already have Gas Guzzlers Extreme & Project Cars heading our way soon, but we certainly do need more decent racing sims. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Awesome! But what AAA racers does Linux already have?

Hope their next Formula 1 game has Linux support. I own F1 2011 and 2012 but can't play them anymore. Probably my most missed games since I stopped dual booting. At least I can still play GP4 in wine while I wait.

Right now none I can think of, but we have the ones mentioned at the bottom of the article coming.

Oh, OK, now I see what you meant. ;) I'd actually failed to see there was more text after the quote, LOL.

yaHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That would be great. Codemaster's racing games are next to impossible to get working in Wine. The closest success I've had is with the first GRID, and even then it just randomly crashes.

A game I have recently put my eyes on is "Next Car Game"....
There are some people asking Linux support in the Community, but I don't remember seeing any response from devs, unfortunately.

Maybe it wasn't specific to Wine. I've had random crashes on Windows as well.

Anyway, I'm definitely buying Project CARS as soon as it comes out on Linux.
I wonder if hype build around that game influenced people at Codemasters to consider Linux/SteamOS support.

I hope they will consider to port the Overlord series as well. I really liked those games. :)

Incredible news, Codemaster racing games are strong franchise.

Yes! Should this hit Linux, it would be awesome!
I'm still a huge fan of the GRID1, though haven't seen anyone online for the past year or so... so I guess I need another one. :D

I haven't played a worthwhile racing game on any platform since Forza 2. The follow ups were ruined by 3 minute load screens - made ironic by the fact that the race was frequently two laps of around a minute each.

So, yep, this is great news. They'll be tapping into a starved market too, at least for the racing genre.

Brave decision, something I won't be doing for a while yet.

The FIA Formula E Simulator is also probably on the way to Linux. But this sounds like it will be something different from the usual racing sim with features like racing live with the real events and such.

I think it was a great turn from Codemasters if they support Linux with all her games.
