You know how we have a bunch of different types of science fiction space games? We have 4x strategy games, shooters, space ship simulators and a lot more. Well, Salvation Prophecy is a game that tries to be everything at the same time.

Salvation Prophecy from Firedance Games is a military space epic situated in a galaxy where four factions are fighting for galactic dominance. An apocalyptic prophecy also looms over the galaxy, which tells of an impending annihilation.

You are a soldier of the faction of your choice and your job is to fight the enemy on the ground and in the space. By doing that you will gain promotions and eventually even take control of your faction as the faction commander.

Many of you might already be familiar with Salvation Prophecy, as it has been on Linux for quite a while already.

The most interesting part about Salvation Prophecy is the fact that it really tries to be everything at the same time. You fly space ships, you destroy enemy colonies and eventually you also get to make decisions for you faction about diplomacy, ship deployments and colonizing. Sadly this also means that single gameplay components are mostly mediocre. The combat is somewhat plain and the game can become a bit repetitive after a while, though the game tries to throw different types of missions at you to increase variety to some extent.

However, the game offers a lot to do to make up for the overall mediocre gameplay. You have an open, though maybe a bit small, universe to conquer, a plenty of upgrades to buy and many missions to finish. With enough patience you can squeeze out a lot of hours from Salvation Prophecy.

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.
