I took some time to test out Hawks Guardians Of The Skies a simple 2D air combat game. I'm never one to mince words and as usual I will be honest about my time spent with it.

My thoughts
The game is pretty simple, as far as 2D arcade flight combat games go it's as simple as it gets. You fly around in one un-customizable jet fighter that comes equipped with 3 different weapons, you pick the weapon depending on your target of course.

You fight off a couple of enemy fighters which feels a bit lifeless as they slowly fly around you shooting missiles as you repeatedly mash the countermeasure button.

The craft feels sluggish and with no after-burners it just doesn't have that satisfactory boost to get away from enemy jets, there is no zooming around at all.

Everything just feels very plain, with very little variation in the the textures used. Especially on the second mission where it's just a grass texture on the ground repeated. The bits shown in the trailer are about as interesting as it gets.

Honestly it feels like a very simple mobile game and not something I would go to purchase on the desktop.

Sadly I would give this one a miss until the game is a little more fleshed-out. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
