I knew Tripwire weren't stupid! Killing Floor 2 was a given when you look at how popular it is, it needs a refresh and I am glad to say it will be on Linux.

For those that don't know Killing Floor is a mostly multiplayer co-op zombie shooter, each round you get time to go to a shop to buy newer weapons ready for the next round.

It's anyone's guess when it will drop, but from that exerpt I think it will be this year. It's pleasing to see that it will be in Early Access, so us Linux gamers especially can really make sure it gets a polished release.

I've spent a lot of hours in the past few years on the first Killing Floor, so this is excellent news. I have always thought Killing Floor could be taken further than it is.

Fans of gory violence will love it, according to the PC Gamer article blood stays splattered for entire matches. With the amount of killing in the first game, KF2 will be a blood filled fun-fest of zombie killing.

I would hope they are using a much newer Unreal Engine for this one to have better Linux support, I do wonder who is doing the porting for them or if it is internal this time. I've popped them a tweet to ask, but they will probably be too swamped to notice us.

We are using a heavily modified @UnrealEngine 3 @gamingonlinux and we are working on our own port this time around.

That's good news that it's an internal port, no waiting on outsiders and they can fix issues themselves.

Now, that is awesome news! It's definitely good news that they are doing the port internally this time. The Linux sales, or at least the prospect of Linux sales for SteamOS must be motivating them.

The only shame is that Unreal Engine 4.1 came out too late for them to use it as their default engine.

I have spent hundreds of hours on the first Killing Floor. When this hits early access I will be throwing money at my screen. :D

Hopefully they will optimise the game really well for Linux...maybe using VOGL to help? Anyway, this is great news.

whats wrong with first Killing Floor... i have played it for good 8-10 hours without any issues.
also if i remember correctly their first port is done by icculus, who probably got the money already but is not able to polish it up...correct me if im wrong though...

I have experienced a resolution problem - no one from my 3 PCs can run it on resolution more than 800x600. Even more - after closing program, usually my Desktop resolution also was set to 800x600.
I tried a few workarounds, no one from them works for me.
And yeap - there were no help.
It should be noticed, even then game was quite playable.

Having spent more time on Killing Floor than any other game in my library by a factor of probably around 3... this is the greatest news I've heard all year.

KF1 has severe texture issues on Linux but I've been lucky to avoid all the resolution issues that plague some.

Fantastic news. Gonna have my wallet ready for this.

I mean, I was playing this last night! :-)

So I take this means we'll finally get RO2's nix build at the same time (since KF1 is built on Ro1, I imagine KF2 is built on RO2)?

none of those experienced.. except the multimonitor issue that it switches second monitor off when going to game.. for that helps windowed mode and custom resolution to not get your game behind panels.

no texture issues for me also, but i have seen some have white floor on some maps and so on.. i dunno what fixed it for me... it might be my custom resolution (1920x1020 - to not have game behind my desktop panels) or FoV which i increased to 105 from the settings file.

Well, I don't know what the experience is like with Nvidia, but with Intel and AMD fps drop below 10 fps frequently after spawns of zombies and it automatically sets all monitors in mirrored mode. I also had some issues with sometimes being unable to move the mouse to certain places in the menu's. Performance is also lower than in wine. With an Nvidia card I remember stalkers not being invisable either.

Please guys don't buy this piece of *** because the first Killing Floor Linux version suffer major problems.

You are just supporting company with ***ty linux support if you buy it.

It is full of texture bugs with nVidia drivers, so that you can't see thtough the scope in iron sight, water becomes solid, some texture masks are messed up - there are black squares all around, etc.

The number of bugs depends on the map you're playing.

yeah besides the texture issues (actually it just means sometimes I can see stalkers when they're cloaked) I found the KF1 port great... runs in HD on my ultrabook at a great framerate.

the scope texture can be fixed with a toggle in the options... never seen that water bug. And the framerate is great... just so people don't get the idea it's unplayable, it's very playable, I've got 90 hours+ in it on mid- to low-end hardware and the only time I remember it's a port is when once every few hours a stalker that should be invisible gets visible.

The water bug is on the Foundry map. Bugs mostly appear when you push graphics further. Off course you can avoid the black scope bug by turning off 3D iron sight but why isn't this bug corrected instead? I mean we pay the same price for a game that's limited to its middle-end graphics when Windows get the full thing, and the bugs I deal with are rather gross. I think they didn't get Ryan Gordon to work on this long enough, because we're used to see some great work from him, and this port is just ridiculous. When you see that the Painkiller HD port has been spat on whereas it works so much better...

It's always the same problem with using outside porters regardless of how good they are. As soon as a company stops paying them they stop fixing issues.

I imagine Tripwire has been too busy with their later games to worry about a few issues that not everyone gets on Linux.

I dunno, I think calling the port "ridiculous" is an overstatement of the problems.. as I said, I've got 90 hours in KF and it's 100% playable. While I agree that I shouldn't *have* to disable 3d ironsights, and maybe there are some more severe bugs when you max out the graphics; I just haven't seen them. In my experience KF1 is a great addition to the linux canon; one of the best, in fact.
