Today we not only bring you the fantastic news that is XCOM, but also actual confirmation now of Stronghold 3 Gold coming to Linux. If you remember recently we speculated on it coming to Linux due to entries in SteamDB.

This continues the big surge in more well known games and developers moving into the Linux space, and it's a trend I love. While not the most popular in the series it does still look great. The reviews on Steam's home-page seem a little unfair on it from people with very little time spent on it giving it bad reviews, but make of that what you will I am just here today to give you the actual confirmation, enjoy!

I now have confirmation from the publisher:
John Kaiser III, Digital Tribe GamesAlright Liam, I just got confirmation that Yes, a Linux version of Stronghold 3 GOLD is in the works.

Stronghold 3 had a very rough release id I remember correctly with a lot of bugs and broken AI. I was windows gamer around that time but I still did not buy it then. Now if they have fixed most of the bugs I could buy it. Someone knows at what state this game is now?

I would rather see Stronghold Crusader on Linux. Stronghold 3 is really not good.

There are indeed some issues with stronghold 3, but it is still quite enjoyable imo. One big annoyance for me is the building and unit cap, but that can be fixed by simply editing one of the config files.

This makes me nostalgic for Lords of the Realm on the Amiga..

Stronghold 1 was the best one of the series and Stronghhold 3 the worst one. Lets hope I remembered it wrong. Stronghold 1 with hd patch on wine works great btw :P

The AI is hiddeous and makes the game UNPLAYABLE. Enemy gets stuck and can't attack you on some occasions. I prefer Stronghold Crusader, which is a great game.

Quoting: AnonymousWill go for it, medieval strategy game for linux still missing in my collection :).

Try Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings, the Paradox games are unbeatable when it comes to strategy.
