UPDATE, it's a native port:
UPDATE 2: They have no beta planned, so they will release it as a full release on their planned date. After The Witcher 2 I was really hoping they would do a beta, but it's their call and I hope it's polished enough to please the masses. Given their history I am confident it will be a solid port.
FINALLY. XCOM: Enemy Unknown for Linux has been officially announced on Feral Interactive's official website. This is something we have been telling you about for quite some time now.
I am now entering super excited mode, it's like drinking 100 coffees at once.
The game will release this "summer" which is a bit vague, but then again given it's almost June it can't be far off.
Source - Also thanks to "Cheeseness" tweet about it.
What do you think to this news? Are you as hyped as I am? One thing that is interesting is they say the Ubuntu version, so not Linux and not SteamOS either.

About the Game
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, you will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics.
The original XCOM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy experts at Firaxis Games. XCOM: Enemy Unknown will expand on that legacy with an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth.
You will control the fate of the human race through researching alien technologies, creating and managing a fully operational base, planning combat missions and controlling soldier movement in battle.
Key Features
Strategy Evolved: XCOM: Enemy Unknown couples tactical turn-based gameplay with incredible action sequences and on-the-ground combat.
Strategic Base: Recruit, customize and grow unique soldiers and manage your personnel. Detect and intercept the alien threat as you build and expand your XCOM headquarters.
Tactical Combat: Direct soldier squads in turn-based ground battles and deploy air units such as the Interceptor and Skyranger.
Worldwide Threat: Combat spans the globe as the XCOM team engages in over 70 unique missions, interacting and negotiating with governments around the world.
Brad Gibson, Public Relations Mgr. Feral InteractiveHi Liam,
To quickly answer your question...It’s native. All Feral games are native applications for the platform the game ships on.

QuoteIn the fight to defend Earth against its alien invaders, every scientific development is crucial in giving us an edge over our planet’s enemies. So we’re quietly thrilled to announce a significant breakthrough: Feral’s first game for Linux, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Linux gamers will be able to join the fight for humanity’s future this summer when the Ubuntu 14.04 version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown is released as a SteamPlay title.
To give new recruits every advantage in the field, all add-on content including XCOM: Enemy Within will be released on Linux at the same time. Our research notes have been archived on the XCOM: Enemy Unknown Steam information page.

UE3? Is it? I just know that some developers/porters ported it on their own.

Since it's Feral and not Firaxis the direct responsible for both ports, would this affect in any way the chances of us getting a port confirmation for Civ V (which was ported to Mac by Aspyr)?

Splendid news! Glad a professional porting house was used to create a native port. I really hope 2K is here to stay.
