UPDATE, it's a native port:
UPDATE 2: They have no beta planned, so they will release it as a full release on their planned date. After The Witcher 2 I was really hoping they would do a beta, but it's their call and I hope it's polished enough to please the masses. Given their history I am confident it will be a solid port.
FINALLY. XCOM: Enemy Unknown for Linux has been officially announced on Feral Interactive's official website. This is something we have been telling you about for quite some time now.
I am now entering super excited mode, it's like drinking 100 coffees at once.
The game will release this "summer" which is a bit vague, but then again given it's almost June it can't be far off.
Source - Also thanks to "Cheeseness" tweet about it.
What do you think to this news? Are you as hyped as I am? One thing that is interesting is they say the Ubuntu version, so not Linux and not SteamOS either.

About the Game
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, you will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics.
The original XCOM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy experts at Firaxis Games. XCOM: Enemy Unknown will expand on that legacy with an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth.
You will control the fate of the human race through researching alien technologies, creating and managing a fully operational base, planning combat missions and controlling soldier movement in battle.
Key Features
Strategy Evolved: XCOM: Enemy Unknown couples tactical turn-based gameplay with incredible action sequences and on-the-ground combat.
Strategic Base: Recruit, customize and grow unique soldiers and manage your personnel. Detect and intercept the alien threat as you build and expand your XCOM headquarters.
Tactical Combat: Direct soldier squads in turn-based ground battles and deploy air units such as the Interceptor and Skyranger.
Worldwide Threat: Combat spans the globe as the XCOM team engages in over 70 unique missions, interacting and negotiating with governments around the world.
Brad Gibson, Public Relations Mgr. Feral InteractiveHi Liam,
To quickly answer your question...It’s native. All Feral games are native applications for the platform the game ships on.

QuoteIn the fight to defend Earth against its alien invaders, every scientific development is crucial in giving us an edge over our planet’s enemies. So we’re quietly thrilled to announce a significant breakthrough: Feral’s first game for Linux, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Linux gamers will be able to join the fight for humanity’s future this summer when the Ubuntu 14.04 version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown is released as a SteamPlay title.
To give new recruits every advantage in the field, all add-on content including XCOM: Enemy Within will be released on Linux at the same time. Our research notes have been archived on the XCOM: Enemy Unknown Steam information page.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I knew, that Feral would work with Linux. And as I see, other people really don`t understand, what does it means. Feral Interactive ports games on Mac OS X and they know Open GL. So, It means (if everything will be okay), that we can do other ports on Linux, that they have already done for Mac OS or wiill do in the future. Hitman: Absolution, F1 2013, Shogun 2, Tomb Raider and others.

Interzeroid Interzeroid (Me) - So, you work with linux now too. It`s very good news. Thank you for your work. P.S. I hope, I`ll see your others ports on Linux.
Feral Interactive - Thank you, we're very much looking forward to being a part of the Linux community. :)
P.S. I like them. I liked them before, because my friends on Mac can play coop with me. Now I like them even more.

Being a former PowerMac user, to me Feral are amongst the greatest porting teams ever. Their Mac ports had the same requirements as Windows versions, and Max Payne, for example, was even mod compatible. Glad to buy stuff from them again !

This is one of the best gamesI have ever played. The second a public beta is available, I will buy it.
I have high hopes for the quality of the port, considering the mac port is good and how well it runs on wine suggests few complications.

I don't know if I understand how his works, but I guess it's better to wait for the Linux release so they can better correlate one event with the other. Not to mention the game's been 80% off on previous occasions.
