XCOM: Enemy Unknown looks like it has entered testing for Linux thanks to some updates we spotted earlier.

Earlier we spotted some updates on the SteamDB:
QuoteChanged UFS

rootoverrides/2/oscompare: =
rootoverrides/2/pathtransforms/1/find: My Games/XCOM - Enemy Unknown/XComGame

rootoverrides/2/pathtransforms/2/replace: feral-interactive/XCOM/XEW/SaveData
rootoverrides/2/root: WinMyDocuments
rootoverrides/2/useinstead: LinuxXdgDataHome

Now, when you look into this more deeply you will find that the Linux testing depots are no longer encypted and the test depot here lists that the "XCOM: Enemy Unknown Mac and Linux for Beta Testing" was also updated 4 days ago.

So, will the saga of waiting on it finally end? Could be a reality soon with all this new evidence.

It won't download anything yet, so don't waste time trying it still has lots of bits to put together before it would be downloadable. That's if it does come to Linux it is all still unconfirmed.

We will keep an eye on it and update you all as needed, that's if we aren't too busy playing it when it lands for Linux.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a remake of one of my all-time favourite games, mixing base-building with slick turn-based action making it awesome. It's highly rated too, so it would be welcome. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Been waiting on this one for quite a while. I don't mind them taking their time, if it means it will be a quality port.

Also worth noting that OpenXcom is fast approaching v1.0: http://openxcom.org/

This is shaping up to be the year of tactical alien-warfare simulators.

Looks like that confirms Feral Interactive are doing the port!

This will be their first linux game. They're very well respected on the mac side of things, often putting in extra mac only features that aren't in the windows build.

Well, I've been playing it on my nexus 5 for quite a while now, but desktop version is most welcome:D

I have a special place reserved on my disk for XCOM (already bought it last year, on first gossips about Linux version). I've been waiting to play an XCOM game ever since finishing UFO: Enemy Unknown on Amiga for the n-th time. ;-)

Oh damn, that reminds me on some old game I loved. I hope it really will be released for Linux.

Will be bought for *sure*, even though strategy is not my favourite kind of games.

Don't rush them, one step at a time, now it's time for Civ V. ;-)

That game is complete garbage. :/

Anyhoo, I already own X-COM:EU and will be picking up the expansion :Enemy Within the second the Linux version is ready. It's one of the few games I managed to just totally lose myself in.
