You Have to Win the Game is a truly authentic and frustrating retro platformer complete with a crt effect to give you a rounded screen. I previewed it for you before when it had the initial Linux release, but the Steam release adds new content.

You can now play as a cat, cats make everything better apparently.

It's a fun game though and since it is free you have nothing to lose, except maybe a few lives, but don't worry if you go with the cat you have nine of them.
