LIMBO caused quite a stir when it was released for Linux being wrapped in a custom wine wrapper by Codeweavers, but that saga looks like it's coming to and end.

On SteamDB it has new info:

Good news for full native fans, but the custom wine version actually worked fine for me.

UPDATE #1:
Ryan Icculus GordonWe started on this way before 2014. This has actually been on the backburner for quite some time; Limbo is one of my favorite games ever, and I really wanted to get a non-Wine version of the game running.
I'm very happy with how the game is running at this point; I'm just waiting for final approval from Playdead to flip it to the public branch and replace the Wine version on humblebundle.com.

Icculus wouldn't be involved if it was a Wine wrapper. AFAIK he has never been involved with non-native ports.

It worked great on Mac.

I think that eON just needs polishing (and of course we, Linux users cannot be laboratory animals anymore, at least not when final version of products are released).

Well, I'm still wondering how much the costs differ between the wrapping approach by VP and hiring Icculus for a native port*.

I don't know the prices VP take to wrap such an AAA title but I have the strong feeling this isn't cheap either. They said it's not a one-click solution, but involves manual tuning of the game. After all, they're now still working to improve performance. That's developing time wanted to be paid.

[*] note, IIRC, all middleware used in Witcher 2 is available for Linux.

I think Icculus might be overburdened right now. Goat Simulator and Sanctum 2 are both under him, and those haven't moved at all.

If he is the one making Limbo native now, I'm worried he's gone and taken on too many jobs at once. If anyone has further information on this, please share it with me.

AFAIK he has never been involved in anything good. Always shipping unfinished crap that never gets fixed. He starts to work on a million projects at the same time and ends up with a million broken ports.

I think the Steam version is not affected by the second bug, it can be fixed but why do we have to find the solution and patch the game by ourselves? Can you imagine anything similar in the windows port?

Maybe I'm also be affected by the frequent crashes. I am using "maybe" because I stopped playing after the second crash.

Apart from Killing Floor his ports have worked just fine for me. And Killing Floor was playable too, it just had these weird graphical glitches.

Which never got fixed. Which is the point - he gets it mostly working, then seems to walk away. The most infuriating part of all the last few ports though - DD, KF, Sanctum 2 (which is still in beta) and Goat Simulator (which isn't even available) is that the glitches are reported, but nothing happens.

So is who is deciding "good enough" is "good enough". DD was too glitchy for me. I put up KF because I love that game, but if he leaves Sanctum 2 as is, his reputation will be in the gutter.

I think it's amazing that he gets working what he does get working... but the polish is terrible. Really, really half-a-job terrible.

So Playdead hired Icculus to bring Limbo to Linux natively at some point in 2014 when the game came out for Windows in July of 2010. That, plus the news about Trine, makes CD Projekt RED seem really lazy considering how The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was handled.

Icculus would be paid to port yes, that doesn't mean he is paid to support it with any single bugfix and developers don't want to work for free. We all have bills to pay you know.

It is down to whoever hires Icculus to keep him on, it's not down to him, so you shouldn't blame him for buggy ports.

Don't forget that Icculus ported some client code for free, when he was paid to do the server ports.
Prey and UT 2004 comes to my mind. So especially when it comes to _nasty_ bugs, I doubt that it is (only) a matter of being paid.

Probably Sabun has a point in assuming that Icculus might be overburdened by the sheer amount of ports.
