PlayCanvas is the "world’s easiest to use WebGL Game Engine". It’s free, it’s open source and it’s backed by "amazing" developer tools. Well now isn't this interesting.

It has been worked on for the past 3 years and now it is under the MIT license, so you can pretty much do with it as you see fit.

Looks like a fantastic tool for developers looking to make it big with games on the web. Could be pretty fun to play around with to get to grips with WebGL gaming and programming.

You can check out the source on github here, or you can have them host it for you with a free plan you can try with limited space too.

Try out this demo game to see just how fluid it is.

See the full website for it here.

Now it is just a matter of getting browser developers to make the experience less annoying to game inside a browser and the OS you use becomes a little less relevant. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Sounds promising .. but rather as flash replacement for games. I like it. Maybe games like Tibia should think about it.

I agree, I too see this as a flash replacement. And it's about time!

They don't provide the level editor or tools as open source, only the engine.

But tools are free to use, and they are real-time collaborative (just like Google Docs).
As well they handle hosting for you, for free as well.
