About
Steam Marines is a squad based Roguelike set on a steampunk spaceship. It features tactical play focused on positioning and careful use of resources. Built to keep you on your toes as you progress through the decks of your besieged ship while clearing enemies and trying to reach each level's elevator.
Build your marines up into long range or up close death machines, but don't expect any mercy. Death is permanent and fallen marines are gone forever. Finding survivors not guaranteed.
Command up to four marines, each with their own gear, talents, and Action Points. Positioning is critical - even a lone enemy can be lethal! Sight and snipe or funnel enemies into a choke point and blow them up!
Linux users have been asking for a Linux version since October last year at-least and the developer has slowly been working towards porting it. So, it's great to see it happen.
The game itself is still in Early Access, so don't expect a bug-free experience. So, in future you can play Steam Marines on your Steam Machines what fun!
Now if you will excuse me I'm off to ignore the world while I play it to death. Check it out on Steam.
Quoting: scaineQuoting: rustybroomhandleReally? That seems a bit of a stretch. Steam puts "Steam Marines" at September 2013 and it's still Early Access. Meanwhile Bionic Dues is one month later, October 2013, full release.Quoting: scaineMore like a Bionic Dues clone. Looks good though. The video has made me want to sink more hours into Bionic Dues right enough...Except this pre-dates Bionic Dues by a long way and you'll be happy to know they are nothing alike.
Unless you know of development that happened before their Steam launch of course, of have some kind of insider developer knowledge?
The game might be "Early Access" but there have been playable versions for sale long before it hit Steam.
Quoting: rustybroomhandleQuoting: CoolHandSeems like a "Space Hulk" ripoff to me... As we already have Space Hulk on Linux/SteamOS, can't see myself getting this..Are you prepared to accuse every single turn-based strategy game with squads of being Space Hulk ripoffs? Is X-Com also a Space Hulk ripoff? Because that's basically how daft that comment is. In my opinion we need more of these types of games, there aren't nearly enough.
PSA, folks: "It's better to remain silent and appear stupid, than to speak and remove all doubt."
You mean, every single turn-based strategy game with squads of space marines vs. aliens in a space ship... Yeah, sounds about right to me. The Space Hulk board game was the first time I saw that concept, and all this other stuff seems like derivative works. This seems too much like the original for me to be able to enjoy. Just like the Iron Tower trilogy was too much a ripoff of the the Lord of the Rings for me to enjoy. But to each his own..
I'm sorry you believe I'm stupid for expressing my opinion on an internet forum... Obviously you have a much superior intelligence in comparison to humble little old me..

Premise vs execution. J. Michael Straczynski:
QuoteConsider this sequence: male meets female; they fall in love; they struggle to overcome forces against them; male dies nobly. Is this "King Kong" or "Romeo and Juliet"? The answer for both: yes. How you handle the details is up to you.
