This is mighty interesting. A SteamBoy has been announced as a handheld Steam Machine and it looks pretty good, but will it run SteamOS? Considering that it has the same touch pads as the Steam Controller and a Steam logo on the back it does look hopeful!
What do you think to it? It is certainly interesting and hell I would probably buy one if it is SteamOS as who wouldn't like to take some of their Steam games with them on the go?!

It could easily be fake though, as it's all well and good having a fancy trailer and some pictures, but we need more MOOORE!

QuoteWhile the exact hardware itself is still under wraps, the SteamBoy design should feature a Quad-Core CPU, 4GB RAM, a 32GB built-in memory card, and a 5" 16:9 touchscreen.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I guess they forgot to mention that you gone have a pc in the back streaming the content to you, thats basically what steamos is about, to let people with huge windows steam collection run their games. so probably gone have a minimum linux/steamos install but does not need any hefty cpu/gfx power

Yeah that's the only realistic possibility that came to my mind - basically Nvidia Shield but based on Steam streaming.

Unheard of company releases nothing but a trailer, there's not a single mention of it by Valve, no specifications, no anything.
I give you that it might not be outright fake, but it's not worth reporting about, because there isn't enough confirmed info on it and all it gonna cause is speculation and misunderstanding.

QuoteDeveloped by the SteamBoy Project, a third-party team with no connection to Valve, SteamBoy aims to be the world's first portable Steam Machine.- source.
It's just portable Steam Machine not from Valve.

Just because it isn't commenting on by Valve doesn't mean it's fake, Valve hasn't commented on Half-Life 3.
We report on everything we can, even fun rumours like this. Deal with it people and move along.

Quoting: HamtarotaroIt is a FAKE please, check multiple sources, check the whois of the "official" website.
Check, check and recheck.
Even Forbes was fooled, Kotaku and many more, thats depressing.............
This notice being on Forbes was precicely the reason it was credible for me, now that I see... well, it's kind of disapointing

It is fake, but it doesn't mean this is impossible.

Since manufacturing is basically up to whatever companies want to do I'd almost be surprised if something like this doesn't surface eventually.
and that's something that might attract a lot of the people who feel they just have no need for a steam machine.
I think it would even get me to start buying a larger variety of game types too

If it streams its not much different from Nvidia's Shield.

It makes perfect sense in my opinion : you can get enough performance with a not-too-high TDP form an AMD APU, and play more demanding games with in-home streaming.
Steam's offline mode is perfect if you don't have an Internet connection.
Overall, I would love to play civilization/the binding of Isaac/Super Meat Boy, or whatever, on such a portable console.
But I am not completely sold on 3D games, though.
Somewhat reminds me the open pandora (or dragonbox pyra), and would be cool to use as a portable linux device.
