The Interstellar Marines developers have been in touch to point out that their Linux version is currently in testing, but it may be months until we see a release. Their FPS game has been shaping up nicely as I've watched it progress and cannot wait to see more from it.
We don't have many tactical FPS games and it will fill a nice gap for us Linux gamers that's for sure.
To quote the developers directly:
About
Interstellar Marines resurrects the old school tactical FPS, offering a unique blend of co-op, role-playing and nonlinear gameplay. Set in a believable future, you take on the role as an elite soldier handpicked to join Project IM, a top secret military program being assembled to protect mankind from all dangers outside our solar system.
Interstellar Marines is inspired by Half-Life, System Shock 2 and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Our game is all about evolving the FPS recipe with all the inspirations we've assimilated since the birth of the genre. Our goal is an evolutionary leap forward driven by our compulsive interest in science fiction, role-playing, military realism, and respect for first person immersion.
Check it out on Steam. What do you think to their update?

QuoteWe have quite a few challenges to overcome first, so I cannot give an ETA. As you can see we're working on it (and have been working on it for a few weeks now), but it could be months before we're able to release a version for you to test, so please do not get your hopes up.
The depot and manifest shown in that link were a very early version of the client we've run through Steam to allow us to test how it installs through Steam's system.
When we're at the stage where we can drm-wrap a working multiplayer version we'll release it to the community for testing. Again, that could be months away, so please do not think this is coming soon.
As you can see though, it's definitely coming :)

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: jestaQuote from February:Was there a need to re-quote that? The developers are communicating and may have a build out in a few weeks if we are luckily, would you prefer they kept waiting and didn't openly talk about it?
"Absolutely. We've mentioned this a few times in this thread, we're planning on releasing a Linux version during the first half of this year."
Well...I guess that didn't happen.
Not a great tone, but relevant. What annoys me though is when "hopes" like this are portrayed by fans to be entitled "promises" of support. That's not the case here. The devs were clear that Linux was "on the roadmap" (see their Steam store page) and if you think "we plan" means "we promise" then I can only admire your wild optimism but not your basic lack of understanding of the English language.
Great to hear that this is happening and even more impressive that one of the devs would take time to visit a site like this and pitch in.

To be fair, it's still the first half of the year....

It's nice to see this and Balder is the best developer. Their work to brining him back to civilised society definitely paid.
